The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 76

A trace of cedar and tobacco hit her, subtle but unmistakable.

It was a scent so familiar, it felt like it lived under her skin.

Petty’s finger hovered, frozen above the elevator button. No time to think. She darted out of the elevator, trying to disappear.

But Franco’s hand locked around her wrist before she could escape.

“Where are you going?” His voice was low, rough, and too close.

Petty’s jaw tightened. “What do you want now? If you’re here to sign the divorce papers, fine. Otherwise, please just leave.”

Franco didn’t let go. Instead, he pulled her back into the elevator and hit the button for her floor.

The doors slid shut. Petty yanked hard, breaking free, then pressed herself against the far wall, keeping as much distance as she could.

She’d never thought the ride up to her place felt long before. Tonight, every floor ticked by, slow and heavy, like time itself was dragging its feet.

She knew Franco would try to follow her out when they reached her floor.

Hans had left bodyguards for her before he went back to the set, just in case Franco came around again. She had no idea how Franco had slipped past them to get inside.

Petty grabbed her phone, found the bodyguard’s number, and dialed.

She didn’t even get a word out before the bodyguard answered, steady and calm. “Petty, Franco brought backup. We’ll handle it as fast as we can.”

Just as she’d guessed.

Petty forced her voice to stay calm. “Take care of yourselves.”

She hung up, knuckles white around her phone.

Franco glanced at her screen, catching a glimpse of her call history. The name “Harris” was second on the list. He let out a quiet, cold laugh, slid off his glasses, and tucked them into his coat pocket.

When the elevator doors opened, Petty didn’t get out. She hit the button for the ground floor, sending the elevator back down. She figured as long as they were on camera, Franco wouldn’t dare try anything.

But she was wrong.
