The Lingering Kiss of Farewell novel Chapter 56

CH 56

Marilyn

She was watching Callum and Vincent play outside in the yard while waiting for the driver to come and collect them for school. Their lives had returned to normal with the start of the new school year. She had not brought up Houston or her book tour, or what had happened, nothing since coming home and she kind of pushed it aside when the boys had questions. They seemed to have let it go themselves

Liam had called her regarding that meeting William Jameson wanted, and it had been organised. She couldn’t ignore it and Liam had advised her not to either. Best to see what it was the man wanted in order to keep Calvin away from her still. She would be headed for his hotel directly after the boys were dropped off at

school this morning.

There had been an assurance that William would be alone and Calvin would not be in this mediation he’d requested. She wasn’t allowed to drive yet herself. She still had moments of dizziness and, although it had now been seven weeks since the stairwell incident, and they were getting less. It wasn’t safe for her to drive.

Her doctor had yet to give the all clear, and had told her that, like her first injury, it would be six months to a year, and only if her dizzy spells were gone completely. Her last accident, she’d not been able to drive for just over six months post her hospital discharge. So he was expecting the same timeframe or a bit longer even.

She had a driver currently to take the twins to and from school and her doctor’s appointments, and she’d been using her today as well to go to that meeting. She couldn’t go to New York for it, so she had allowed Liam to make their meeting in Roanoke, Virginia, a 35to40minute drive from where she lived. It was considered local but not near her house, which was actually off the main roads and a little on the difficult side to find if one didn’t know the roads.

She knew this was going to give that man an idea of where she lived, but realistically, anywhere within an hour of Roanoke could be looked at as to where her hometown was. It would still be difficult to find unless he had a private investigator digging into her fully. She didn’t think so at this time, or he’d likely have just sent that letter direct to her, as an unspoken threat of I know where you live and can tell my client anytime I like.

The school drop off was easy, and she waved them goodbye and reminded them that Ashley would be picking them up after school and got a We know, we don’t have amnesia,Right back and then they’d laughed and run off, her boys were back to normal it seemed, that was a good thing for her to see.

They d

do like to torment you about that, don’t they?Ashley chuckled from the driver’s seat.

Yes, it’s a running joke in our house,” she’d nodded as Ashley had pulled the car out from the school drop off zone and headed for Roanoke.

Where she found Liam Stevens waiting for her in the hotel lobby, he smiled at her, Morning Marilyn.

Morning,” she’d greeted him back/You didn’t need to meet me down here, I know which room you’re in, and where the meeting will be held.

All’s good,” he waved it off. How goes your recovery, cast free I see.he nodded and motioned for her to

follow him.

Yes, they came off last week. I can finally type properly and no more pirate jokes from the boys with my use of one crutch.” She chuckled softly.

They are rambunctious. I can hear that when I call you at times, he nodded.

They stepped into the elevator, and she asked Is he here?because a part of her didn’t believe that Calvin’s lawyer wouldn’t tell him everything he’d found out.

William? Yes,Liam nodded. Calvin was not with him. That kind of surprised me a little too. He’s already set up in my room and wants to get the ball rolling. He flew in last night like I did.

I don’t understand why he needs to do this. Get the ball rolling, from what I read we’re divorced, right?she did want clarification of that.

Yes, legally you are.Liam nodded as they rode the elevator to the third floor, then walked down the hall to his room and he ushered her inside. All the blinds in here were open, and going from the somewhat darker hallway to a bright sunlit room made her dizzy, and she snapped a hand out to the wall to steady herself and stopped walking. It was one of her triggers, something the neurosurgeon tested her on as well.

Marilyn?Liam asked her curiously.

1 still get dizzy going from dark to light or inside to outside at times. Kind of triggers a vertigolike sensation. She told him, “It’ll pass, I just need to stand still for a minute to adjust to the change of lighting, letting it pass is all,

He stood there with her and when she finally leaned off the wall, Liam placed a hand to the small of her back and guided her further into the room, and to a table where William was already sitting and waiting for them.

Williamseyes were on her, and he was frowning deeply, had seen her moment of dizziness she supposed.

Side effects of her injuries from falling down the stairs,Liam informed William. She’s also still not allowed to drive her car, and has many restrictions on her, thanks to your client.

“Td like a list of them,” William stated, and the approximate recovery time, perhaps Marilyn, if you’re willing. I could talk to your neurosurgeon here and get a full run down of them,William asked.

Why?she asked right back.

Because it will all be covered by Calvin. He was genuine in his offer to pay for everything to do with your recovery, despite the way he went about it and regardless that you left town unexpectedly, or without Informing myself even.” William shook his head a little.

That was in the best interest of my client,Liam stated. The man is obsessed and out of control, and telling him I was removing her might have seen more violent behaviour come from him, towards my client.

He is, or was obsessive,William nodded, but now, it appears his thoughts on the matter are indeed correct, doesn’t it? Calvin saw Marrin in Marilyn’s mannerisms, the sound of her voice and even the perfume she wears is the same. Wil countered, My client was not actually wrong in the end.

That doesn’t mean he has the right to stalk, harass or harm my client. He was rude to her and appeared menacing from the very first moment she laid eyes on him.Liam stated simply, truthfully

Mm, in the bookstore,” William acknowledged. He had you sign that book, Marilyn, so he could look at your handwriting, something he also recognised, and for him was the clinching factor of who you were.”

I don’t care to rehash everything he did to me,Marilyn told him, and she didn’t. I dropped all the charges, with an agreement that he’d leave me alone if I did so. He signed that agreement, I believe, so he has to abide by it and leave me alone.,
