The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 200

Chapter 200

Ellie’s POV

The library was blissfully quiet that day, more so than usual, which was surprising because it was normally the most peaceful spot at the academy

I set my things down at my usual table in the corner, nestled between two tall bookshelves on either side of a high-up window that let in the afternoon light. It was my favorite spot because the sunlight was always warm and golden at the right hour, providing natural light without having to turn on the small lamp that sat in the middle of the table.

“Ellie?” The librarian, an older woman with wire-rimmed glasses, shuffled around the corner pushing a cart full of books. “Oh, it is you!”

I smiled as I rifled through my bag. “How are you doing, Sandra?”

“Fine, fine. My arthritis is flaring up today, though.” She gestured to the cart. “You wouldn’t mind putting these away for me, would you? I know it’s a lot to ask—”

“Not at all.” I walked over and took the cart from her. “I need something to keep me busy, anyway.”

The librarian shot me a sidelong glance. “I heard the news about your wedding… Oh, well I shouldn’t pry.”

“Thanks.” I was glad for that. The librarian smiled and walked away, and I got to work reshelving the

books.

I always liked this task, honestly. It was peaceful and methodical, the kind of task where you could let your mind wander a little. I liked the process of finding each book’s correct spot, and the satisfaction of putting everything in its place.

I started off in the fiction section, pausing occasionally to flip through an interesting book here and there. Then, I moved to the biographies, then onto math and science, and finally, I wound up in one of my favorite sections of all: history.

The history section was a secret pleasure of mine. I often liked to flip through books on random historical events that I didn’t know about. There was a lot of history to our world, much of it forgotten by the masses, but always documented in large tomes.

It interested me to read about the people who came before us, especially some of the most ancient peoples. Family drama, battles long forgotten, royal lines-they all served as reminders that the people who came before had hopes and dreams and spirits too, and that they weren’t just faceless entities of the past.

It was also a reminder that, one day, we would all turn to dust. And that we had to live each day to the fullest.

I supposed I knew that firsthand, though. I’d died once before, and I had been incredibly lucky to have been given another chance. But there likely wouldn’t be a third, which was precisely why, this time around, I had to focus on myself; not on pleasing a man who would only betray me in the end.

Shaking off the thoughts, I reached for the next book on the cart. This one was thick and heavy, with yellowed pages that were worn around the edges. The cover was slightly dusty save for a few fingerprints, as if it had only been briefly removed from the shelf for the first time in a long time.

Curluus, I wiped off the cover atid read the title.

“The Story of the Ancient Lycans.”

My brows lifted. The Lycans. I remembered reading about that ancient race when I was in high school. They were like werewolves, but slightly different-stronger, faster, with fiercer wolf spirits inside of them.

Allegedly, at least.

No one really knew for certain because they had died out several thousand years ago, leaving behind only scraps of a civilization. By the time we had the technology to uncover their artifacts and ancient cities, much of it was dust. We only knew what we knew based on bones, pottery, and faded cave paintings.

Still, the subject always interested me. Lycans were an ancient race, but some would even argue that they were more advanced than we were now. They knew how to create clean, running water without machinery. They had unique healing abilities and access to ancient medicinal herbs that were long since extinct.

Unfortunately, they seemingly had no written languages, otherwise we might have gained their knowledge.

The book intrigued me, so I set it back on the cart and finished putting away the others. Once I was finished, I grabbed it and returned to my area, where I settled in and began to read.
