Dominic’s POV

The call came in just after midnight.

A farmer on the eastern edge of the pack territory had reported at least three rogues harassing his livestock. According to the report, they had already killed two of his cows and were coming for him next. He managed to get inside and lock the doors, but he was elderly and alone and outnumbered.

I was at my desk when my Beta knocked and relayed the message. I stood immediately, grabbing my jacket from the back of my chair.

“Get a team together,” I said. “We’re leaving in five.”

He nodded and left.

By the time I made it downstairs, there were already six warriors waiting by the front entrance, armed and ready. We piled into two vehicles and drove out to the farm. The ride took fifteen minutes, and none of us spoke the entire time.

My mind was racing-ever since Gareth’s camp had been destroyed during the last fight, these rogue attacks had been cropping up more and more. The rogues who lived in his camps had scattered, most venturing further into the wilderness, but some were still skulking around, stealing food and supplies from unsuspecting pack members. This was our third report since last week. Thankfully, they were usually just here to commit petty crimes, but I didn’t want to take the risk of letting any walk away.

When we arrived, the farmer was standing on his porch. He looked relieved to see us.

“They’re still out there,” he said, pointing toward the barn. “I heard them talking a few minutes ago.”

“Stay inside the house,” I told him. “We’ll handle it.”

He nodded and retreated into his house. I could see his face pressed against the glass as he watched through the

window.

Silently, I motioned for the warriors to fan out around the barn. My Beta stayed close to me as we approached the old building. The smell of blood hit me, overpowering the scent of cow dung and hay, before we even reached the

doors.

I pushed the barn door open slowly, letting my eyes adjust to the darkness inside. The smell of blood became much stronger, and as my vision cleared, I quickly spotted the source: a dead, or rather dying cow laying on its side with its guts hanging out.
