The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 351

Chapter 351

Ellie’s POV

The wine was cheap, but Sarah had insisted it had a good flavor, and it did. She’d shown up at Lucas’s door an hour ago with two bottles and a grin, declaring that passing the traveling healer exam was a big deal and deserved proper recognition.

So now we were sitting around Lucas’s kitchen island, three glasses deep, and I was starting to feel the pleasant buzz that came with letting my guard down for the first time in weeks.

“I still can’t believe you got a ninety-eight,” Sarah said, refilling her glass. “That’s insane.”

“It’s not that impressive,” I said.

“Bullshit.” Lucas took the bottle from Sarah and topped off his glass, then mine, even though I didn’t for it. Not that I was complaining. “The average passing score is seventy. You blew everyone out of the

water.”

I shrugged and took another sip of wine. The truth was, I didn’t feel like celebrating. I was glad I’d passed, sure, but it didn’t erase everything else. My mother was still dead. My marriage was still over. And in three months, I’d be leaving everyone I knew behind to start over somewhere else.

But Sarah and Lucas looked so happy and proud of me that I just didn’t have the heart to tell them any of that. So I smiled and raised my glass when they made a toast, and I pretended like everything was fine.

“To new beginnings,” Sarah said.

“To new beginnings,” Lucas and I echoed.

We clinked our glasses together and drank.

Sarah set her glass on the counter and leaned forward. “So where do you think they’ll send you?”

“No idea,” I said. “Could be anywhere.”

“Hopefully somewhere warm,” Lucas said. “You’ve had enough cold for one lifetime.”

“Or two, in her case,” Sarah pointed out.

I rolled my eyes. “Don’t remind me.”

Sarah grinned. “Maybe you’ll end up somewhere tropical. Beaches and palm trees and-”

A knock at the door interrupted her, and we all froze. Lucas glanced at the clock on the wall. It was

almost ten.

“You expecting someone?” Sarah asked.

Lucas shook his head and stood. “No.”

He walked over to the door and opened it. I couldn’t see who was on the other side from where I was sitting, but I heard Lucas say something I couldn’t make out, followed by a familiar voice that made my

heart stop.

“Is Ellie here?”

I stood so fast I nearly knocked over my wine glass.
