Chapter 102
Lyra
I slowly blink my eyes open and realize that everything around me is completely dark. The only thing I can see is the faint speck of moonlight peeking
through the tiny hole near the ceiling. I don’t know how long it’s been since I cried my heart out until I finally passed out on the cold stone floor. My body feels stiff, and my throat is raw, but the physical discomfort is nothing compared to the weight in my chest.
All I can feel is a suffocating mix of pain, anger, and deep humiliation for how Kai treated me. I hate him. I hate him so much. I can’t believe I let myself
get carried away the second he touched me.
My face heats up even now in the dark as I remember the way he drove me nearly insane with just his fingers. The memories of my body arching against the wall and the wanton sounds I made are like a hot brand on my skin.
I’ve only ever had sex once. It was with Ryan, back when I thought he was my everything. When it happened, it wasn’t special at all, it was clumsy and
quick, but I didn’t mind because I truly believed I was in love. After he rejected me so cruelly, I promised myself that I would never be sexual with anyone
again. I thought I had more control than this.
But the second Kai touched me, I was gone. I was ready to give up every bit of my pride.
‘Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!” I mutter to myself, hugging my knees to my chest. I feel so embarrassed I wish I could just disappear.
‘I’m at fault too, Lyra,’ Wyndra’s voice suddenly speaks up in my mind. She sounds sad and hesitant.
I sniffle, wiping my eyes with the back of my hand. ‘What do you mean?”
‘I amplified your desire,’ she confesses softly. ‘The bond… it was so strong under the red moon. I was so aroused by his proximity that I couldn’t help but feed
that energy back to you. I’m sorry.’
I sigh, leaning my head against the damp wall. “Don’t feel bad, Wyndra. It’s not just you. I’m the one who couldn’t keep it together.”
*How do you feel right now?’ Wyndra asks after a moment of silence. ‘Are you injured? Did he hurt you when he threw you in here?’
“No,” I tell her, my voice cracking. “I’m not physically hurt. But I’m heartbroken and frustrated. I just want Kai out of my life, Wyndra. I want to go back to when he just ignored me. I want him out of my life as soon as possible.”
Wyndra sighs, and I can feel a wave of unease coming from her. ‘I know you’re really upset right now, and you have every right to something else? Like why Roman found you right when you were looking for Erika?’
1 pause as her words cut through my self-pity. “What do you mean by that?”
Opt.
But… what if you think of
It seems like a setup, Lyra,’ Wyndra says, her voice turning more serious. ‘I feel like Erika set this up somehow. She knew exactly where you’d be, and she knew Kai would get mad if he saw you involved with Roman.’
I let out a dry laugh of disbeliet. “Wyn, Maybe being cooped up in this basement is making your mind run wild. Why would Erika set up all this? She’s my friend. How could she have even coordinated something like that with a Prince?”
‘She’s been acting off, Lyra,’ Wyndra argues, her tone sharpening. ‘Ever since she failed her assessment test, she’s been distant and cold. It’s suspicious. She’s been spending time with Rina.’
“Of course she’s acting off!” I snap back, my frustration boiling over. “She’s scared of being expelled from the Academy! Her entire future is on the line. I would be

upset for a long time too if it was me. You’re just looking for someone to blame because you don’t want to face how much Kai hurt us.”
Wyndra tries to argue, her voice rising in my head, but I don’t want to hear it. I’m tired of the theories and the what-ifs.
“This has nothing to do with my friends, Wyndra. Leave them out of this. Kai is the problem!”
‘Lyra, listen to me for once!’ she growls, her frustration matching mine. I’m trying to help you! I’m trying to show you that things aren’t what they seem!’
“Help me?” I yell at her, my hands shaking. “If you actually wanted to help me, you would transform! You’d stop being a ghost in my head and actually do something! Stop feeding me lies and acting like we’re special when we both know I’m not. I’m just a wolfless, pathetic girl. That’s why I’m a slave. That’s why I’m being treated like trash in a basement. So stop acting like we’re special! We’re not!
Total silence follows my outburst. I can feel the sharp feeling of Wyndra’s surprise and the crushing pain my words caused her. It’s like a physical weight in my mind.
‘Okay then, sorry for wanting to help,’ she says, her voice barely a whisper.
I immediately feel a wave of guilt wash over me. “Wyndra? Wait, I didn’t mean-
I try to call her name again, but her presence is already gone. The warmth she usually provides in the back of my mind has vanished, leaving me feeling colder and more alone than I’ve ever been. I just pushed away the only being who has truly stayed by my side through everything.
More tears fall as i curl into a ball on the floor, the silence of the basement feeling like my physical enemy. I eventually fall into an exhausted sleep, dreaming of red moons and broken promises.
When next I open my eyes, I am still all alone, locked in this damp, dark basement like a caged animal. The air is cold and stagnant, smelling of old stone and my own misery.
“Wyndra?” I whisper into the darkness.
There is no answer. I try again, louder this time, my heart racing in my chest with fear. “Wyndra! Please, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean what I said. Please talk to me!”
