Chapter 110.
Lquickly get up from the bed, my thoughts a chaotic mess. I need to find out exactly what Rina has been up to behind my back.
“I’ll see you soon, I tell Lyra, not looking back as I head toward the door.
She looks confused by my sudden exit, but she nods silently, pulling the blankets tighter around her shoulders. Just as my hand touches the handle of the
door, she calls my name.
“Kai?”
My heart skips a beat at her voice. I stop immediately. I try my best to ignore the way my name sounds on her lips. So soft, melodic, and far too enticing. It
makes me instantly hard. Fuck it.
“Yes?” I answer, looking over my shoulder.
She looks at me shyly, her voice small. “Can I… can I still take my assessment test in two days? don’t want to fail.”
I turn fully to look at her for a moment. Even with how her face is pale from the nightmare and her lips are chapped and dry, she still looks like a fucking
angel sitting there in my bed. So innocent, so beautiful, and so completely out of place in my dark world. My chest tightens again, but this time it isn’t from
guilt.
“You can take the test,” I say.
A tiny smile immediately lifts the corners of her mouth. It’s the first time she’s looked at me without fear or hatred in hours, and the sight of it makes my pulse jump. Then she catches herself, probably realizing she shouldn’t have smiled at me when she’s still upset with me, and quickly turns away, looking at
the window.
I chuckle and turn to walk out, shutting the door firmly behind me. As I rush down the hallway, I try to keep my anger under control.
If Rina actually set all this shit up, then I got pissed at Lyra for no reason. I punished her for a lie.
And if that’s true, Rina is going to regret manipulating me and making me/almost lose my fucking mind.
