Chapter 145
Lyra
King Geo stands over me, staring at me in a way that makes me want to jump out of my skin. The blue haze is still clouding my vision, but I can feel the king’s hateful gaze.
“I just received news from my doctors,” the King says in a voice that’s deceptively calm. “It appears my son has magically been revived from the jaws of death. They say it is a miracle. They say the poison simply vanished from his veins.”
He steps closer as he stares down at me with a look so harsh that it feels like he’s trying to burn holes through my skin.
“Right now, I am giving you a single chance to confess,” he says. “Tell me your secrets, girl. Tell me everything.*
I sob, pulling my knees tighter to my chest. I’m shivering, trying to cover as much of my skin as possible with my arms. “I swear, Your Highness… I had no idea who shot that arrow. I don’t know who wants to hurt the Prince. I was just there!”
King Geo lets out a dry chuckle. “Oh, I know you aren’t the one who organized the attack.”
My eyes widen. Relief immediately flares in my chest but also confusion. If he knows I’m innocent of the shooting, then why am I here? Why am I being treated like a criminal? I open my mouth to ask him to let me go, but he speaks again before I can find the words.
“What I want you to confess,” he says, leaning down until his face is level with mine, “is who you really are. And how you had the power to heal a dying
Lycan when the best doctors in the kingdom had already given him up for dead.”
My heart falls. The relief I felt a second ago turns into a cold weight in my stomach. I should have known. The King doesn’t care about justice, he cares
about power.
“I… I didn’t do anything,” my voice cracks as I stammer. “I
tried to clean/his wounds. I was praying to the Goddess, and-”
‘Don’t you dare lie to me!” the King roars.
The sound is so loud it makes my whole body vibrate. I flinch, self harder against the stone wall. Suddenly, He grabs my chin, his fingers digging
into my jaw so hard I moan in pain.
I’m forced to look at him. Up close, his eyes are a terrifying green color. They are so similar to Kai’s, but where Kai’s eyes hold a flicker of humanity, the King’s eyes are like cold glass. There is nothing but a predator in them.
“If you don’t tell me the truth right now,” he hisses, his grip tightening until I think my bone might snap, “I will not only kill you, I will send my guards to the Valeria pack. I will wipe out every person you have ever known. Your parents. Your siblings. I will burn your home to the ground while they are still
inside.”
“No!” I cry out, tears spilling over my cheeks. “Please! Don’t do that! They have nothing to do with this!”
“Then tell me!” he demands.
His hand relaxes slightly, and he begins to stroke my chin softly. The transition feels weird. One second he’s ready to crush my skull, and the next hes acting like he’s being gentle. I know it’s an act. He’s a monster playing with his food,
Then he moves closer to me, crouching down until he is almost touching me. I can feel the heat radiating off him, and his smell makes me nauseous. He traces his fingers over my shoulder, his touch lingering in a way that makes my skin crawl. The discomfort is overwhelming. I want to scream, but I’m

paraty and by his presence:
“What… what are you doing, Your Highness? I ask, my voice trembling with pure fear.
The King smiles at me. It’s a pure predatory expression. “If you tell me who you are… if you prove your worth to me… I might even indulge you. I might decide to keep you for myself. You could be my… little plaything.”
My blood runs cold. My body freezes as the meaning of his words hits me. Did he just say what I think he was saying? Or am I hearing things?
