Chapter 149
Kai let’s out a harsh, cruel laugh. He turns around to face me with a mocking smirk on his lips. “I only said that because I was horny at the time. But let’s be clear, Lyra. No matter how homy get, I would never actually fuck you. You’re too dirty for me. You’re a slave. A nothing.”
He glares at me, his eyes dark with a fake kind of boredom. I’m giving you five minutes to get out of this palace and go with Damon. If you aren’t gone, I’ll take away your admission to the Academy personally, I’ll send you back to Valeria, and I’ll make sure they treat you even worse than before. Do you understand?”
“Why are you doing this!” I yell, the pain finally turning into a desperate rage. “Did I do something wrong? Did I offend you in my past life? Why is it always a rollercoaster with you?! What do you want from me you wicked Lycan!”
“SHUT THE FUCK UP!” Kai yells back, his Lycan voice booming in the small cell. It makes the walls vibrate. “Get out of here!”
He starts to turn, but then he stops to look sideways. “And when you get back to the academy? Pack your things and get out of Kara’s place. You’re done living with us royals. You’ll stay in the general dorms with the rest of the low–ranks. Stay the fuck away from my sister. Got it?”
He reaches down, picks up a bundle of clothes from somewhere behind him then slides them across and flings them to me. “Get dressed and disappear from
here. I won’t say it again.” Then,
Walks out and slams the door.

I stand there for a second, staring at the closed door. Then my legs give out. I slide down the wall and hit the floor, my head in my hands. The tears finally
fall, thick and heavy. I feel completely defeated. Hopeless. Every time I think I might be happy, it gets destroyed in a way that leaves me broken and less of
myself.
What have I done to deserve such harsh reality? Why?
‘Lyra… Wyndra’s voice is soft in my head. She’s trying to console me, but I can feel her sadness too. My fox is mourning just as much as I am. ‘Ignore him. He is a fool, Lyra. You are much more than any of them. You are special. One day, this whole world will bow down to you. Don’t him break you.”
“He didn’t just break me, Wyndra,” I whisper into the darkness. “He destroyed/me.”
‘I’m sorry baby. Come on, get dressed. I have something to show you later when we’re alone. This will make you feel better and understand who we are a little
more.
I force myself to get dressed, pulling the cold fabric over my body. I don’t look at the bodies on the floor. I don’t look at anything. I just walk out. I hope the stupid king is shocked when he sees that his pathetic animals were killed by me. I didn’t even have to do too much.
I fought them in my human form, but allowed Wyndra to pass her current of power into me. I used their own claws against them and made them kill each
other.
And I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
When I find my way out of the palace, Kai’s Lycan Beta, Damon is waiting by the car. Usually, he’s neutral and doesn’t really interact with me, but right now he’s looking at me with a look of pure pity. I want to punch that look right off his face. I don’t need his sympathy.
The drive back to the academy is short and silent. I stare out the window at the passing trees, feeling completely hollow. When we arrive, I don’t wait for Damon to open the door. I jump out and walk straight toward the general dorms building.
It’s midmorning, so most students are in training or sleeping. The hallways are mostly empty, for which I am grateful. I don’t want anyone to see me like this. I locate the room number for my only real friends and knock on the door.

Chapter 149
Inork twice:
The door opens, and Isolde shows up. She looks like she just woke up, her blonde hair a mess, but her eyes go wide when she sees me.
Lyra? What are you doing here? I thought you were at the palace with the prince? You guys are back so soon?”
Amara appears behind her and turns on their room light. Her expression changes from confusion to horror the moment she sees my face. “Lyra? Are you okay? What happened?”
I try to speak. I try to tell them everything that happened, the shooting, the cell, the King, and Kai’s cruel words, but nothing comes out. I just burst into
tears and fall forward.
They catch me, wrapping their arms around me and pulling me into the room. They shut the door, shielding me from the world, and just hold me tight.
“Come in, come in, Amara whispers, her voice soothing. “We’ve got you. Who hurt you? Just tell
