‘Nick?” I call ouf.
There’s no one there. The aisle is empty, I look down the rows of books and whisper aloud. ‘Nick! Where are you!”
I hurry toward the end of the shelf, but there’s no sign of his, No footsteps, no door closing. He’s just… gone.
‘Time’s up,
Diamond! Let’s go!” the guardian shouts from the entrance.
I walk out of the East Wing with my head spinning. My mind is a mess as I think of silver hair, blue eyes, and ancient gods.
Who is Nick? Why have I never seen him before in the entire academy? And what does “wielding the sun” even mean? It all feels so strange, like I’m living
in a story I don’t know the ending to.
And how did he disappear like that? One second he was right there, and the next, he was gone into thin air. I need answers.
‘We really need answers. Wyndra speaks up in my head. Her voice is clear and surprisingly calm. ‘I felt it too. I was drawn to him. He felt… like home.”

“Home?” I ask her. “What does that mean?”
‘I don’t know yet,” she whispers. ‘But he is not a stranger. Not to us.”
I’m so lost in thought that I don’t see the person walking toward me until I bump right into them.
“Whoa there,” a familiar voice
says.
I look up and see Prince Roman. He’s smiling down at me, his eyes bright and/warm. I find myself smiling back automatically. Roman has been a constant presence in my life since Kai exiled me to the general dorms. He’s been picking me up from the library, walking me to the cafe, and even walking me to my
next classes.
He reaches out and kisses my cheek, the gesture casual and sweet. “I was starting to wonder if you were planning on sleeping in the library tonight, Lyra.”
I laugh, feeling some of the tension leave my shoulders. “I just got caught up in some history. You know how it is.”
“I really don’t,” Roman says, his eyes dancing. “I was already preparing to come inside and mount a rescue mission, but I didn’t want say reputation as the
r most unserious Lycan royal to be tarnished by being seen in a library.”
I let out a loud laugh at that. “Heaven forbid you look like a student.”
“Exactly,” he says, taking my hand. his palm is cool and steady. “Where are you heading now?”
“To the cafe,” I say. “I promised Amara and Isolde I’d meet them.”
“Okay then, I’ll walk you, Roman says, pulling me along.
I want to tell him he doesn’t have to, but I decide to stay quiet. After the way Kai treated me, Roman’s kindness feels like a balm. I’m grateful he’s here.
As we walk through the courtyard, the sun has started to set behind the academy towers.

Chapter 152-
Tur leak at Roman, ‘Hey: Roman? Do you know a student faned Nick?
Roman raises his eyebrows, a playful smirk on his face. “Nick? I hope you aren’t crushing on some other man already, Lyra. I already have enough to deal with, having to compete with my tyrdat cousin. I don’t need more competition.”
I flush shyly, looking away. Roman hasn’t been subtle. These past few days, he’s been asking me out constantly, and he’s even resumed gifting me flowers
randomly.
“It’s not like that,” I say, laughing. “I just met him in the library. He was… different.”
“Different how?” Roman asks.
“He was very tall, I describe, trying to put the image into words. “He had silver–white hair, almost like mine but shinier. And deep blue eyes. Exactly like
mine, actually.”
Roman stops walking and looks at me, his expression thoughtful. “No,” he shakes his head. “I don’t think I’ve seen anyone like that.”
He reaches up his fingers and gently brushes a strand of hair away from my face. His fingers linger in my hair, still stroking and playing with the strands. “Besides, no one else in this academy has silver hair like yours, Lyra. It’s beautiful and unique,” he whispers. “Just like you.”
My breath freezes in my throat. We stand there in the middle of the hallway, staring at each other. Roman continues to stroke my hair, his gaze dropping to my lips. He slowly leans down, giving me every chance to pull away.
I don’t.
I close my eyes as his lips touch mine in a soft, gentle kiss. It’s sweet and careful, lasting only a few seconds.
When he pulls back, he’s smiling. “Sorry,” he says, though he doesn’t look sorry at all. “I just couldn’t stop myself.”
“It’s fine,” I say, my voice a bit shaky. ‘I… I wanted it, too.”
Roman looks surprised, then a wide, happy grin breaks his face. He looks like he’s about to lean down again and kiss me, but he suddenly freezes.
His expression shifts, focusing on something above and behind me.
I turn around, and the blood drains from my face. Standing on the balcony of the training hall, looking down at us, is the monster himself.
Kai.
r
He is glaring at us with a look of such pure, cold fury that I can feel it from here. It’s like a physical weight pressing down on my chest. Even from this distance, his presence is overwhelming, filling the air with a dark, suffocating power.
Then I notice his hand. It’s resting firmly on the shoulder of Princess Rina, who is standing beside him. His mate. His future queen. They’ve been seen together every night for the past week, ever since he sent me away. At least I’m grateful he didn’t send me out of Krypton because I’m almost sure he could.
Kai continues to glare at me and Roman, his jaw set in a hard line.
A wave of hurt and anger washes over me. He has no right. He called me dirty. He kicked me out. He’s with the woman he wants. He has no right to look at me like I’m betraying him when he was the one who threw me to the wolves.
