Chapter 157
Lyra
My lungs are burning as I stumble into the doorway of my dorm room.
My vision is blurred by thick smoke. I had been trying to find a way out of the building after helping two girls from the end of the hall, but the fire had cut off the main stairwell. I ran back to my room, hoping an emergency kit was still reachable, but when I get there, I stop dead in my tracks.
The room is blurry and filled with smoke, but the heat coming from the two men inside is even more intense.
Kai and Roman are standing in the center of the wreckage, glaring at each other with a hatred so strong that I can feel it. They look like they’re about to burn each other down faster than the actual fire consuming the dorm.
“You’re a dead man, Roman,” Kai growls.
His voice isn’t human. It’s the sound of a predator. I watch in horror as his skin begins to change. His bones crack and reset as he starts to shift into that terrifying Lycan form. Shadows bleed from his skin, swirling around him like a dark storm.
Roman doesn’t back down. His own eyes are glowing a fierce, defiant blue. His shoulders broaden and his claws extend as he prepares to take Kai head–on.
“Stop!” I scream. My voice comes out as a hoarse, painful rasp, but it’s enough. Both of them freeze. Their heads turn toward me at the same time, their predatory gazes locking onto my trembling form.
I’m a mess. My clothes are torn, my skin is covered in soot, and a sharp, throbbing pain is radiating from my left shoulder where a piece of timbed grazed me. But seeing them ready to kill each other makes me forget my own agony for a second.
“Lyra!” Roman snaps out of the trance first. He rushes toward me, his face etched with genuine terror. “Dammit, you’re hurt. Are you okay? Can you walk?”
He moves to touch my arm, but Kai is faster. He moves with supernatural speed, stepping between us and baring his teeth at his cousin. The tension in the room is so thick I can barely breathe.
I glare at Kai as my heart races fast. Why is he here?
After the way he threw me away at the palace, after he called me dirty and worthless, why he standing in a burning building for me? Is he here to finish the job? Is the humiliation of my exile not enough for him?
“What are you doing here, Kai?” I ask, my voice trembling with a mix of exhaustion and rage.
Kai doesn’t answer immediately. He just looks at me, scanning my face before settling on my tattered clothes. Then, he steps directly into my personal space, looming over me. I have to take a step back so our chests doesn’t clash.
“Why the fuck are you in here?” he yells, his voice booming over the sound of the flames. “Why were you trying to save others when you should have been saving yourself? Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
“I was helping people!” I yell back, my voice cracking. “Unlike you, I actually give a damn about the students in this wing!”
“You’re an idiot!” he roars, his face inches from mine. “You’re a wolfless girl in a building full of fire and rogues! You have no business playing the hero!”
‘And you have no business being here!” I shove against his chest, though he doesn’t move an inch. “You made it very clear where I stand with you, Prince

Chapter 157-
Kai You told me to stay away You told me 1 was nothing So why are you here now?”
Kai’s jaw tightens, his eyes flashing with a dark, unreadable emotion. You’re still my slave, Lyra. You belong to me. That means you do what I ask and you
stay where I can see you. I won’t have you dying in some fire because you wanted to be a martyr.”
“I am not your property!” I hiss.
Kai suddenly grabs my neck with a growl.
Roman steps forward and roughly pulls Kai away from me. “That’s enough, Kai! She isn’t your slave anymore. The moment you sent her away, she stopped being your anything. She’s my girlfriend now. You touch her again, and I’ll-”
Kai spins around, a growl ripping from his throat as he lunges toward Roman.
“No!” I shout, stepping between them again and slamming my hand on Kai’s chest. The heat coming off his skin is staggering. I look him right in the eyes, refusing to cower. “Can you stop it? Just stop!”
I turn to Roman, my expression softening with a plea. “Roman, please. Don’t worry. I’ll handle this. Just go. Make sure the others are safe.”
“I’m not leaving you with him, Lyra,” Roman argues, his eyes filled with worry. “He’s out of his mind.”
“Please,” I insist, still keeping my hand on Kai’s chest to keep him back. “I’ll meet you outside. I promise. Just go!”
Roman hesitates for a moment, looking between me and Kai. Finally, he steps back, but his eyes never leave Kai’s.
