Chapter 156
She looks up at me, her eyes filling with fresh tears. She starts to sob, the sound broken. “She’s… she’s still upstairs! She wouldn’t leave! She stayed to help
the others in the end rooms!
I freeze. The fear that hits me is so sharp I can’t breathe. Fuck! I knew it. Of course, she stayed.
“Why is she even here?” I snarl, my frustration boiling over. “Daman said you were at the cafe!”
“She… she didn’t want to come back yet,” Amara cries, her voice trembling. “But we convinced her. We wanted to watch a movie together to cheer her up… Oh, Goddess, Prince Kai, I’m so sorry! I tried to drag her with me when the first blast hit, but she refused! She said some of the others were stuck and
needed help!”
I let out a low growl of frustration. “You should have dragged her by her hair if you had to!”
“I tried!” Amara wails.
I shove the frustration down. It’s not Amara’s fault. It’s Lyra’s. She’s so damn selfless it’s going to get her killed. I’ll have to punish her for this later. I’ll lock her in my room and never let her out if that’s what it takes to keep her from playing the hero.
“Get out of here, Amara,” I say, my voice dropping to a calm tone. “Go find my beta. I’ll get her.”
I don’t wait for a response as I sprint down the hall, my lungs burning. The fire is spreading faster now. I check every rooms as I move forward, kicking
doors off their hinges.
Empty. Empty. Empty.
Finally, I reach the door to her room. My heart is in my throat. I hold my breath for a split second, praying to a Goddess I don’t even believe in, then I bang the door open with a single, powerful kick.
The room is filled with smoke, but the fire hasn’t reached the interior walls yet.
I freeze.
There, standing in the middle of the room near Lyra’s bed is Roman.
He looks like hell. His shirt is torn, his face is streaked with soot, and his eyes are glowing with his own Lycan light. He’s holding a stack of Lyra’s books and clothes as if they’re the most precious things in the world.
We stare at each other for a long, tense moment. The air between us is thick with more than just smoke.
“What the fuck are you doing here, Roman?” I ask, my voice a low, dangerous rumble.
Roman doesn’t flinch. He just adjusts his grip on the books. “Apparently, the same thing you came to do, cousin.”
The sight of him in her room, touching her things, makes my blood boil. I march forward and grab the front of his shirt, slamming him back against the wall. The burnt wood creaks behind him.
“You have no business being in here,” I hiss, my face inches from his. “Get the fuck out before I decide to throw you into the fire myself.

Chapter 156.
Ramgy stares back at me, his expression hardening. He doesn’t look afraid. He looks annoyed. He reaches up and yanks my hands off his shirt with a surge
of strength that surprises me.
“Even if you do, I’ll heal, Roman say his voice cold. And I’m not going any fucking where. I’m here to save my girlfriend’s things and make sure she’s
safe.
I freeze as my chest tightens. His words echoes in the small room, Touder than the fire outside.
“What did you just call her?” I ask. My voice is quiet now. Calm. The kind of calm that usually precedes a massacre.
Roman straightens his shirt, a small, triumphant smile playing on his lips. It’s the look of a man who knows he’s just landed a killing blow.
“You heard me right, Kai,” Roman says, his blue eyes locking onto mine. “Lyra is my girlfriend. She said yes te me earlier today. Right before the attack.
The world stops.
The heat, the smoke, the rogues outside, it all vanishes. All I can see is Roman’s smug face. All I can feel is the absolute, soul–shattering fury of a beast that has just been told his mate belongs to another.
‘I’ll kill him,‘ Vlad says. He isn’t joking anymore. There is no sarcasm. Just a cold demand for blood. ‘I’ll Kill him now.‘
My claws fully extend as rage fills me up. At this point, it seems I’m going to kill a member of my own family.
“You’re a dead man, Roman,” I growl.
