They aren’t wet with tears. They are bright with triumph. She gives me a look so evil, so full of victory, before she hides her face

again and resumes her fake crying.

Ryan is standing beside her. He’s looking down at his feet, his shoulders bunched. He looks downcast and guilty, playing his part to

perfection. Only Jackson, sitting off to the side, looks genuinely sad as he watches me. I look away from him. I don’t want his pity. I

don’t want anyone’s pity.

“You sent for me, Father?”

My voice comes out firm and confident even though inside, I’m shaking so hard I’m surprised I can stand. I won’t give them the

satisfaction of seeing me break.

The hall remains dead silent.

Alpha Rafa clears his throat. “Yes, daughter. A very disturbing footage has been brought to our attention. A picture of you with Ryan

Kent, your sister’s mate. I would like you to explain yourself.”

I stare at him in disbelief. This is the man who apologized to me? The man who said he wanted to turn a new leaf? And now, he’s

questioning me in front of the entire pack like I’m a common criminal? He’s supposed to know Daisy set me up but he keeps acting

like he’s blind.

“Explain?”

The Luna’s voice cuts through the air like a whip. She stands up, her eyes flashing with venomous anger.

“There is nothing to explain!” she shouts, her voice loud and harsh. “This nasty daughter of mine was caught red–handed whoring

herself to my other daughter’s mate! She has no shame! She spent her whole life as a wolfless embarrassment, and now that she has

a little bit of power, she thinks she can steal whatever she wants!”

I stare at her silently. I’ve known she hated me my whole life, but the level of cruelty in her voice is something I’ll never

understand. Why does she treat me like her enemy?

“She must be punished for what she did,” the Luna continues, turning to address the pack. “Not only did she try to steal a mate, but

she has brought shame upon Valeria! The news has spread to the capital! The royal, the Academy–they all think we are a pack of

scandals because of her!”

Daisy lets out a loud, theatrical sob, and the Luna squeezes her hand tighter.

“We all know the punishment for a female who tries to steal another’s mate,” the Luna says, her voice dropping to a dangerous

whisper. “Exile. I love both my daughters, truly I do. But Lyra has shown time and time again that she is a rogue at heart. She has

no respect for the bond. She has no respect for this family.”

She looks back at my father, her eyes pleading but her mouth set in a hard line. “Lyra must be exiled. For the safety and the

reputation of the pack. She must go.”

Everyone in the room gasps. The murmuring starts again, louder this time. Exile. It’s a death sentence for most. Without a pack, without protection, I’d be at the mercy of whatever monsters roam the woods.

Uncle Cassian steps forward, his face red with anger. “This is madness, Sarah! You haven’t even heard her side! She was drugged!”

“Drugged?!” The Luna laughs, a harsh, mocking sound. “That’s the excuse she’s going with? She looks quite happy in that photo to

me.”

I ignore her and look directly at my father. I wait for him to speak. I wait for him to stand up and tell them that he believes me I

wait for him to remember the ‘new leaf‘ he spoke about just yesterday.
