Chapter 22
Lyra
The moment I get to the front of the class, stand still, feeling like I might throw up if I walk in there. Everr from where I’m standing, I can feel the aura of
these special students. I feel so out of depth.
What if they realize who I am? What if they attack me and send me out?
“You are now fifteen minutes late Lyra Diamond.” Parish’s automated voice comes up, pulling me out of my thoughts.
Okay, I have to do this. I’m a certified student of Krypton. I have a right to be here as much as anyone else so I’m done feeling scared.
“Yes, girl. My ghost wolf says in my head. ‘You deserve to be here. This is our dream and you will finally live it! This is where you can train so that your strength will grow until you can handle how special we are.
‘Are you just saying all this to encourage me, Wyn?’
Wyndra just chuckles. ‘Very soon, Lyra. You will understand why you didn’t turn on your eighteenth birthday. And you will be glad you didn’t.”
I wonder what she means by all this
hope she’s not just saying all this to make me feel better.
“Seventeen minutes late.” Parish reminds me. Even though her voice is straight, it almost feels like she’s scolding me.
“Okay…” I murmur before taking a step forward.
I take a deep breath and
step
inside.
As soon as I step into the room, everything goes quiet. The chatter stops, and everyone turns to look at me. I can feel all those eyes on me, some curious, some judging. My face flushes deep red, and I end up looking down at my shoes just to avoid their stares.
The Instructor is a tall man with a scarred face and a strict looking posture. He stands at the front of the class and clears his throat. “Ah, fellow he wolves and she-wolves, welcome our newest student, Lyra Diamond.”
The murmurs start immediately after my name is mentioned. The silence is suddenly broken by noise as people lean over to whisper to their seat partners, looking at me with curious, judging eyes.
‘Is she not the famous diamond thief?” someone asks from the middle row.
A round of laughter fills the classroom. The sound cuts through me, making tears burn at the back of my eyes. It hurts to be branded as a criminal when I didn’t take anything. I want to defend myself, but the words get stuck in my throat.
“Be nice, everyone. Let’s stay professional. The instructor says, then turns to me and gestures to the rows of seats. “Take a seat.”
I nod and start walking down the row, but it’s harder than I thought. Most people already have seat partners, and those who have empty seats next to them quickly put their bags on the empty space, glaring at me and making it clear I’m not welcome.
I feel smaller with every step. I’m almost ready to turn around and run out of the room when I see a hand waving in the back.
I hurry toward the girl signaling me, feeling a massive wave of relief. I sit down beside her, the girl has bright blue shout hair and she’s wearing a very short..

skimps outfit that fits her body. She has a huge smile of her face, but she’s definitely not like anyone I’ve met before.
She has piercings on her nose and ears, tattoos trailing down her arms, and her fingernails are painted deep black.
I can’t help but wonder how it feels to be that free with your own hody. It must be nice to not care what anyone thinks.
The girl stretches out her hand toward me. “Hi! I’m Erika Ducone. I’m an Omega.”
I shake her hand, offering a small smile. “Im Lyra. I’m also an Omega.“
She chuckles and leans in closer. “An omega too? Well, I guess we the rats have to stick together, right?”
Before I can respond, the Instructor claps his hands together. “Attention, everyone! Open your tablets to page ten.” We all do as he asks.
