“I’m not going after her,” I snap angrily, slamming the glass down on the marble counter with enough force to rattle the stone. “I gave you my word, and I am staying away. Now drop it.”

A triumphant, satisfied smile spreads across Rina’s glossy lips. “Good. Now that she’s gone, come on, let’s have some real fun, baby.”

She steps into my personal space, her hands reaching out to pull the towel wrapped around my waist. She grips the edge, preparing to slide it down my hips.

Before she can even loosen the knot, my hand shoots out and I grab her wrist in a tight grip, stopping her movements instantly.

Rina winces, looking up at me in shock.

“Get out of my room in exactly two seconds,” I whisper, my voice dripping with an icy, lethal promise that makes her entire body flinch.

“Before I physically throw you out into the public corridor exactly as you are. I am not in the mood for your games today.”

I release her wrist with a harsh shove. Without waiting to see her reaction, I turn on my heel and walk straight back into my bathroom,

slamming the door shut and locking it tight. I lean my back against the cold tile wall, letting out a ragged, frustrated breath as I close my

eyes. My chest is burning, and my skin still feels on fire from the brief moment I held Lyra against my side.

I turn the shower handles back on, stepping under the freezing spray of water to numb the ache in my veins.

And perhaps, I will just have to use my fist to find release, closing my eyes and thinking about the one beautiful, defiant girl I can never have again.

Lyra

I walk dazedly along the crowded hallways of the main academic building, my heavy bag dragging against my thigh with every step I take. The noise of hundreds of students chatting, laughing, and slamming locker doors echoes all around me, but it all sounds incredibly

distant, like I am underwater.

I feel like I am floating through the corridors with absolutely no clear direction, my feet moving entirely on autopilot as I try to locate the specific lecture hall where my Wolf History class is being held. My vision is still slightly blurry from the tears I cried outside, and my chest feels completely hollow, like a giant hand reached inside and ripped out my soul.

“Why can’t I just forget about him?” I ask myself bitterly, my jaw tightening as I stare at nothing in particular. Why does a single look from him still have the power to completely destroy me? It’s been four months. Enough time for anyone to get over a heartbreak. Why is my case different?

“Because you still love him,” Wyndra replies softly, dripping with a heavy, shared sorrow. “That’s why it hurts so bad. We are both completely in love with them, and denying the bond isn’t going to change the truth.”

I shake my head repeatedly, frowning as I continue to walk forward with no direction in mind.

No, Not anymore. I refuse to think of him ever again. He chose to let me go. He chose to stand there and let Ring insult me. I am done wasting my tears en a prince who looks at me like I’m a stranger.

wyndra sighs unhappily and stays quiet. My beautiful fox doesn’t have much to talk about these days. Sometime we stay silent without

talking to each other for days or weeks. I know she feels as miserable as I do.

Suddenly, as I turn to a corner along the hallway, a large hand suddenly shoots out from the shadows.

Before I can even process what is happening, the hand grips my forearm in a second, pulling my entire body sideways with an incredible,

shocking strength, yanking me right out of the main corridor and being dragged into a dark, narrow space in between the academy walls.

Panic flares hot in my throat. I open my mouth wide, preparing to scream for help at the top of my lungs, but a large palm instantly claps

over my mouth, effectively smothering the sound into a quiet gasp.

“Shh, don’t scream, Lyra. It’s just me,” a gentle, familiar voice whispers right next to my ear.

1 freeze in surprise and slowly lift my head up, my eyes widening as I look at the boy standing in front of me.

I recognize him instantly. He has the same silver hair, and those deep blue eyes that are similar to my own. It is the strange, quiet friend

I made at the library months ago.

“Nick…?” I ask, the word comes out muffled as he slowly pulls his hand away from my lips, ensuring I won’t scream again.

“Hi, Lyra. It’s been a while,” Nick says. He smiles softly at me. The faint trace of sunlight hits his silver hair, making him look almost like

an angel standing in the dark.
