Chapter 235
Lyra
I stare at my phone screen for the fifth time in a row. I tap the call log, hitting the unknown number that Nick used to text me
during history class. I place the phone to my ear, holding my breath.
‘The number you are trying to reach is currently unavailable. Please try again later.’
I put the device away and groan in frustration, tossing it onto my mattress. He vanished into thin air the second he walked out on
Isolde. I don’t know where he goes, where he sleeps, or how he manages to completely disappear from a campus crawling with delta
guards.
More than anything, I need to look him in the eyes and ask him why he rejected Isolde. It makes absolutely no sense to me. There
isn’t a shifter in the entire world who shouldn’t be completely overjoyed to meet their fated mate. The bond is supposed to be sacred. It’s a gift from the Goddess herself. How could he just look at her and walk away?
Woh, please.
Look who is talking,’ Wyndra’s voice rises in my mind, dripping with sarcasm. Yet you and your own fated mate have refused to accept each other for months, right? You are running around doing the exact same thing.”
I roll my eyes. You know that is completely different, Wyn. Kai already has a chosen mate. He made a public commitment to someone
else.in
“And that is only because you pushed him away in the first place!’ Wyndra snaps, sounding very angry. ‘You pushed him right into the arms of his fake mate, Rina. And now look at us. All of us are completely miserable! You are miserable, Kai is miserable, and I am stuck in here starving because I can’t be near his Lycan.’
My jaw tightens. ‘You don’t understand what I am going through, Wyndra. You have absolutely no right to blame me for how things turned out. You aren’t the one who has to carry the weight of what Nick told us.’
Wyndra lets out a growl that vibrates through my chest. She doesn’t understand the paralyzing fear that is currently clawing at my throat. She doesn’t understand the terrifying reality of having to hurt Kai.
Nick wants me to end the life of the Lycan Prince. He wants me to kill the heir to the throne. Every time I think about it, my stomach twists into a painful knot. But Wyndra doesn’t care about the politics, the war, or the danger. All she cares about is mating with Kai so she can finally be reunited with his Lycan beast, Vlad.
Before I can say anything else, Wyndra cuts the connection completely, retreating into the darkest corner of my mind and leaving me in a suffocating silence. I let out a heavy sigh and rub my temples.
“Are you fighting with your fox again?”

Chapter 235
“Yes,” I admit, dropping my hands into my lap. “She is being incredibly difficult today.
Amara chuckles lightly, setting her tablet down on the bed. “Well, don’t feel too bad. It happens to almost all of us. Iris and I have not been on speaking terms for two whole days now.”
“Really? Why?”
“Just because I didn’t take her out to run in the northern woods on Tuesday,” Amara says, rolling her eyes playfully. “She’s been throwing a huge tantrum inside me. Wolves can be so dramatic when they don’t get their way.
I manage to let out a small laugh. It feels good to have a moment of normal roommate banter. But then my eyes drift toward the third bed in our room. It’s completely neat, untouched since this morning.
“Amara… do you think we should be worried that Isolde is not back to the dorms yet?” I ask, my voice dropping. “It has been hour since she walked away from us in the hallway.”
Amara follows my gaze to Isolde’s empty bed and her expression softens slightly. “Nah. Don’t worry too much about her right now. Whenever Isolde is deeply upset and needs to be completely alone, she goes straight to the campus cinema block. She sits and watches whatever movie is playing. She says it helps her escape reality for a little bit. It’s her coping mechanism.”
