Chapter 25
I quickly shat Wyndra out before she can taunt me toore
Roman clears his throat, pulling me out of my thoughts.
“Um… so, I thought this was the part where you finally tell me who you are? Or are you planning on leaving a guy hanging? Because I’m starting to feel a
little awkward here,” he jokes, tilting his head with a playful smirks
But you’re not just a guy, I think. You’re a Lycan. You’re a Morningstar. And I am absolutely terrified by the lot of you.
I swallow the lump in my throat and finally find my voice. Im Lyra. Lyra Diamond.”
Roman’s eyebrows shoot up. “Oh, wait, the Lyra Diamond from the Valeria pack?*
My stomach does a somersault. Here it comes. The judgment. The look of disgust.
I wait for the smile to drain from his face as soon as he recognizes me. He’ll think I’m the thief too. I feel myself shrinking, bracing for him to change with
But he doesn’t move or look at me with disgust. If anything, he looks even more intrigued.
‘I knew that name sounded familiar,” he says, tapping his chin thoughtfully. “I know your siblings, too. Jackson and Daisy, right? They’re both enrolled here. They’ve made quite a name for themselves in the medium levels already.”
1 tense up instantly. Just the mention of their names makes my skin crawl. Jackson and Daisy are the powerful wolves everyone admires.
The thought of them finding out I’m here, in the same academy, makes me feel physically sick. At least I’m in the lower-level classes. I hope I can stay buried in the low levels and never have to look them in the eye.
I decide right then and there that I have to be more invisible moving forward. Attracting Lycans is like playing with fire, and I’ve already been burned enough for one lifetime.
I look over and see Erika still standing in the same spot, her head hanging low, her shoulders shaking slightly.
I turn back to Roman. “I… I have to check on my friend now,” I say softly. I look up at him, meeting his blue eyes for a brief second. “Thank you. Truly. For defending me when you didn’t have to.”
Roman smiles and steps a little closer, his expression softening. “Of course I had to,” he says. “And I’ll do it again and again if I have to. No one deserves to be treated like that.”
My heart warms up instantly at his words. He doesn’t know it, but for someone who has been the target of people’s cruelty, it feels so good to have someone defend me genuinely.
He flashes that gorgeous grin again, “I’ll see you around, I hope?” he asks, looking at me expectantly
I give a small pod before turning to run toward Erika. I can feel his gaze on me until I reach her.
“brika? Are you okay?” I ask, reaching into my bag and pulling out some tissue paper. She takes it, her hands trembling as she wipes the stray tears from her
face

The bunks ap at me with a sad, agile smile. Thank you, Lyra. For atanding up for me. Before I can respond, she throws her arms around me, bugging me rightly. I freeze for a second. I’m not used to people touching me like this, but then I relax and hold her back. I can feel the lump forming in my throat.
“They’ve always done it, she whisped into my shoulder. Because my wolf is so weak. I’m an easy target. I hate my wolf so much!”
I pull back to look at her, my heart aching for her.
“Erika, what if I told you that I’m completely wolfless? I confess. “I haven’t ever turned. Not once.”
Erika’s eyes go wide, her sadness replaced by genuine shock. “What? But.. How are you enrolled then? This is Krypton Academy. You can’t get past the gates
without a signature wolf aura,”
I look down at my shoes, the embarrassment creeping back up to my neck. “It’s… it’s mostly because of the prince. He made it happen.”
Erika stares at me like I’ve just grown a second head. Then, slowly, that quirky smile of hers returns, her tears completely dried up.
She looks like she just discovered a juicy piece of gossip.
