The Lycan Prinee’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance)
Chapter 26
Lyra
By the time we finally enter through the door and into the crowded cafeteria, Erika is back to her usual self, talking my ear off at a hundred miles a minute.
It’s actually nice to hear her voice instead of her crying. She starts telling me about her life back home in the Mist Pack.
“My dad is Alpha Connor,” she says, then her voice turns low as if she’s sad. “But it’s just us. My mom, the Luna, passed away when I was little. It was a
rogue raid and she was poisoned.”
“I’m so sorry.” I touch her shoulder softly.
“Ah, it’s fine. It’s been a while and my father has always been there. He’s basically been my everything.”
She tells me how her father knew she wasn’t a very strong wolf and she struggled just to shift, but he never gave up on her. He pulled every string he had
and spent a fortune just to get her admitted into Krypton so she’d have a fighting chance to grow stronger.
I feel a pang of sadness in my chest as I listen to her. I can’t help but compare her life to mine.
If only my father had looked at me with even a tiny bit of that care. If only he had seen me as a daughter worth protecting instead of an embarrassment to
be hidden away and treated like dirt.
I force a smile on my face. “That’s so sweet, Erika. He sounds like a great man.”
She smiles, her eyes shining with admiration. “He really is. I miss him like crazy. I’m already counting down the days until mid–year break so I can go home
and give him a big hug.”
We finally reach the front of the queue. I keep it simple and order a free steak sandwich, while Erika goes for a bowl of creamy pasta. Just as we turn away
from the counter to look for a place to sit, my phone dings in my pocket.
I pull it out, expecting a notification from the academy app. Instead, my heart skips a beat when I see a name on the screen I didn’t even know was saved on,
the phone.
Kai: Meet me later today for your next task.
I immediately feel annoyed at his commanding tone, even though he’s kind of my master or whatever. The man just doesn’t quit, does he?
I roll my eyes and slide the phone back into my pocket, and keep walking. I won’t let him ruin my already perfect day.
A second later, my phone vibrates in my pocket again.
Kai: Are you ignoring me?
I huff, my grip tightening on my food tray. I decide not to reply to him the second time, hoping he’ll take the hint and find something else to do.
But Prince Kai doesn’t take the hint. Within five seconds, my phone starts vibrating in my hand.
He’s actually calling me. Shit. Why didn’t I just reply him and end it there? Now he’s probably going to punish me!

Chapter 26
“Everything okay?‘ Erika asks, glancing at my ringing phone.
“It’s nothing…” + murmur. My frustration is boiling over. I know if I don’t answer, he’ll probably send a Lycan squad to drag me out of the cafeteria. I reluctantly swipe the screen and press the phone to my ear.
“Why the fuck is my slave ignoring me? His voice is hard, cold, and echoing with that arrogant authority that always makes my blood boil.
