The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 250

Chapter 250

“Can we see her now?” I ask immediately, stepping past the doctor toward the door. I need to see her. I just need to.

The doctor stops me, his expression turning serious.

“Yes, you may enter. But you must not straits her too much. Do not ask her to explain what happened or try to force her to think of

the attack right now. Any undue mental stress could cause serious complications for her head injury. Keep it brief and gentle.”

“We will,” Damon promises for us.

We all file into the private medical room. The moment my eyes land on the bed, my chest tightens with a painful mix of relief and

sorrow. Lyra is slightly sitting up on a pile of pillows. A thick white bandage is wrapped securely around her head, and her face

looks really pale and weak.

I don’t care about anything else. I rush straight to the side of her bed, my legs moving on instinct. I lean down and gently pull her

upper body into my chest, wrapping my arms around her in a tight, desperate hug. The rest of the group stands near the doorway,

silently watching us.

“Fuck, Lyra,” I whisper softly into her silver hair, holding her against me as if she might disappear if I let go. “You have absolutely

no idea how happy I am to see that you’re awake, baby. You scared me to death tonight. Don’t ever do that to me again.”

I expect her to wrap her arms around my neck. I expect her to cry, or even to push me away in anger like she did at the bonfire.

But she does none of those things.

Instead, I notice how completely stiff and rigid her body goes in my embrace. She feels like a statue of ice in my arms.

A knot unease hits me. I slowly pull back from the hug, loosening my grip, and look/down into her eyes. Lyra is staring straight up

at me,

but her blue eyes are completely blank. She looks at my face as if she is deeply confused, her brow furrowing. There is no anger in her expression, no love, no recognition, just confusion. It is as if she doesn’t understand why a complete stranger is

standing over her bed crying.

I gently reach out my thumb and brush her cheek.

“Hey… are you okay, flower?”

The moment my skin touches hers, she flinches violently. She jerks her head away from my hand, trying to shift her body as far as possible, away from me. She continues to stare at me with an intense, fearful expression.

I freeze, my hand frozen in mid-air. I’m completely confused by her reaction.

Kara steps closer to the edge of the bed, her voice filled with concern as she looks at her friend. “Lyra… are you alright? Do you feel faint? Should we call the doctor back inside the room?”

her

“No, no, no, I’m fine,” Lyra says quickly, her voice sounds weak and genuinely puzzled.

But… who is he?” She asks, pointing a finger at me.

Wait. What?

I freeze completely, feeling the blood drain entirely from my face. Behind me, the entire room goes dead silent. Damon, Kara, Lyra’s

friends, Roman, and Nick are completely speechless, their eyes wide with shock.

Lyra turns her head back to me still looking at me like she’s just seeing me for the first time. “I’m really sorry… do I know you?

My hand drops to my side as I stare at her speechlessly.

I feel like the floor just opened up and swallowed me whole.
