Chapter 260

I offer him a small, warm smile to make him feel more comfortable. “Great. I’m Lyra. What’s your name?”

Instead of answering, the boy’s face goes completely red. He immediately looks back down at his shoes,

shifting his weight from foot to foot in total silence. He doesn’t say a single word back to me.

I blink, wondering why on earth he is behaving so timidly. If he is this terrified just talking to a classmate in a crowded hall, how is he going to shift and fight off a pack of rogue wolves in the simulation? My

anxiety levels spike a little higher.

Just then, the transparent door slides open again, and another girl walks confidently into the box.

She is chewing a piece of bubblegum very loudly, making sharp popping sounds with every movement of her jaw. She has sharp, cat-like facial features and dark hair tied back in a high ponytail. The moment she steps forward, her eyes instantly lock onto me, eyeing me up and down with an intense look of curiosity.

She stops right in the middle of the space, crossing her arms. “Well, looks like we’ve got a weird mix so far,” she says in a loud voice as if entirely unbothered by the shy boy in the corner. She extends a hand toward

  1. “I’m Aloe.”

I reach out and shake her hand, relieved to find someone who actually speaks. “I’m Lyra. Nice to meet you.”

Aloe smirks, popping her gum loudly as she looks around the empty space of our box. “So, Lyra, are you ready to be a part of the top 20? Because I don’t plan on losing my dorm privileges over some stupid virtual

reality game.”

I let out a small, nervous chuckle, keeping my thoughts about my missing fox to myself. “Well, we just have to wait for the remaining two members to arrive. Then we can be completely sure we’ll be a part of the top

20.”

“True that,” Aloe agrees, leaning her shoulder against the glass wall. “Let’s just hope we get some heavy

hitters.”

We stand there waiting for a few more seconds, the tension building in the air as the countdown to the exam draws closer. Finally, I notice two figures walking down the aisle toward our section. They are walking side by side as they approach our enclosure.

They must be the remaining two members of our group. I brace myself, turning around to face the entrance

of the box so I can greet them properly.

The transparent door slides open with, and the last two girls step inside the enclosure.

The moment they walk inside, my entire body goes completely stiff. The small smile freezes on my face

freezes as I look up, and my gaze instantly clashes with the second girl who walked through the door.

The girl freezes on the spot too, her eyes widening in immediate recognition as she stares back at me. For a

second, the entire box falls into suffocating silence.

Then, a slow, wicked smile spreads on her face. Her eyes light up with pure malice as she steps forward into
