Chapter 264

But I refuse to give up. We need this. I have to try to reach it. I lean out even further over the edge, feeling my muscles scream against the pull. I dip my hand down into the mud, my fingers finally locking around
the edges of the second package.
The exact moment I successfully pick up the second artifact, the quicksand suddenly violently erupts.
The sand latches onto my hand, pulling me downward with incredible force and speed. It feels like an invisible monster is dragging me into the depths. No no no!
“Aloe, please pull me out!” I scream in panic as my arm is violently dragged into the thick mud.
Aloe grunts loudly as she tries to pull me back. But the quicksand is far too thick and heavy. The relentless suction is too strong, rapidly swallowing my entire arm all the way up to my shoulder. I am being dragged
face-first into the pit.
“Guys! Help me!” I yell at the others, my voice cracking with absolute terror as I struggle against the mud. “Don’t just stand there watching! Help me, please!”
Sansa doesn’t hesitate. She comes forward and grabs my shoulder, pulling with all her strength. The shy boy overcomes his fear and rushes over to wrap his arms tightly around my shoulders, gritting his teeth as he
pulls backward.
Even Clara, realizing that if I get swallowed by the sand the entire team will fail and face probation, steps forward. She grabs a fistful of my jacket fabric and starts dragging me back toward the path.
For like a full minute, they don’t stop dragging me out. When it almost feels like my limbs are about to be torn apart, the quicksand finally releases its grip on my arm. I violently pop out of the mud, tumbling backward onto the narrow road along with the rest of my teammates.
We made it! Thank the Goddess!
We all sit there on the ground for several minutes, gasping heavily for air, covered in dirt and wet sand. Aloe reaches over, taking the two wet packages from my hands, and tears open the paper wrapping to inspect what we found.

Chapter 264

One of the artifacts is a polished horn of a stag. The other one is a bright, shimmering peacock feather. Aloe
nods her head in satisfaction, unzipping her backpack and sliding both items safely inside.
I slowly prop myself up on my elbows, wiping a thick layer of mud from my face. I tap the glass screen of my digital watch, pulling up the map of the virtual simulation to check our next destination.
“Okay,” I say in a rough voice as I trace the glowing lines with my finger. “Based on the map on our watch, the next two artifacts are located not too far away from our current position. One of them is hidden inside a dense bush of sharp thorns, and another one is completely under water.”
Clara crosses her arms tightly over her chest, frowning deeply as she looks down at the glowing screen over my shoulder. “What’s the last one? Where is number five?”
I look down at the final red marker blinking at the very edge of the map. My expression turns grim as I look
up at my teammates.
“It’s inside the den of wild wolves,” I tell them, my voice steady despite the fear in my heart. “And by the looks of it, it is going to be the hardest one for us to get.”
We all go quiet, staring at each other in silence as the reality of the test sinks in.
This isn’t going to be easy.
