The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance)

Chapter 267

A familiar, suffocating panic rises in my throat immediately. I cannot shift. What am I going to do now?

Aloe, Sansa, Clara, and the boy all step forward, and i can see their bodies already tensing up as they

prepare to trigger their transformations.

Except me. I stay behind, standing completely still against the gate, looking at them awkwardly in my human form. Wyndra is completely silent, absent from my mind, and even if she was present, I can’t let anyone else in this academy know my true secret, that I am not a wolf at all, but a silver fox shifter.

The shy boy looks at me with shock and awe on his face. “Wow, You really are wolfless like they say.”

I spare a glance at Clara, bracing myself for the cruel insults and mocking laughter that I’m certain will come out of her mouth. This is the perfect ammunition for her to bully and mock me like before. Especially when i put her in her place twice.

But Clara surprisingly doesn’t say a single word. She stares at me, and then turns around to face the shy boy

and the others.

“I hate to say it,” Clara says, voice loud and firm, “but Lyra Diamond has been the one behind most of our success in today’s test. She got us out of the quicksand, she got the locket from the thorns. I still don’t like her, but we owe it to her to protect her right now.”

My jaw drops in shock. A sudden, overwhelming rush of emotion hits me, making my throat tight and my eyes prickle with hot tears. I never expected Clara Thorne, of all people, to stand up for me.

The rest of the group looks at Clara, and then they all nod their heads in immediate agreement.

“She’s right,” Aloe says, popping her gum one last time before spitting it into the dirt. “We protect our

team.”

They immediately move into a tight formation, surrounding me completely and leaving me standing safely in the middle of the circle. Sansa turns around and thrusts the heavy golden key into my hands.

“Lyra, you hold the key,” she says. “While we are fighting off the wolves, you need to get to the lock on the other side of the gate, use the key to open it, and secure our way out of here.”

“I can do that,” I say, holding the golden key tightly against my chest. “I won’t let you down.”

They all get ready, moving into their fighting stances. Clara glances over her shoulder at the dark shadows

moving inside the cave. “Come on, bitches,” she growls.

Then, everyone shifts.

The sound of cracking bones and tearing fabric fills the air as their bodies rapidly transform. In a matter of seconds, four massive wolves take their places around me. There is a sleek brown wolf, a thick black wolf, a striking grey wolf, and a smaller brown wolf. I almost don’t know who is who anymore.

I remain standing in my human form, but I refuse to be completely useless. I look around the dirt floor and find a small, discarded iron sword left behind by whoever, I don’t care.. I lift the blade and take a defensive

stance.

Then, the wolves come out of the den.

My breath cuts as the creatures emerge from the darkness. They do not look like normal wolves at all. They look like demon wolves. Their fur is a pitch-black color that seems to absorb the light, and their large eyes glow with a terrifying, burning fire. When they snarl, they reveal massive, monster-looking mouths packed with what looks like up to a hundred razor-sharp teeth. A thick, dark smoke rises continuously from their bodies, swirling around them as they walk. They look completely, entirely evil. What sort of virtual reality world is this where the creatures seem real?
