Chapter 268
“I’m going for the lock!” I yell out, turning around and sprinting toward the gates. I slide the golden key into the rusted lock, turning it with all my strength. It clicks loudly, and the heavy gate begins to slowly
swing open.
But the sound draws attention. Before I can step through, a demon wolf breaks away from the main fight. It lunges through the air, tackling me forcefully to the ground.
The wind is knocked completely out of my lungs as I hit the dirt and the heavy weight of the monster pins me down. Its terrifying jaws snap inches away from my face. Its sharp teeth drip with thick saliva as it tries to get a fatal bite out of my neck. I raise my arms and press my sword’s blade against its throat, holding the wolf’s neck back with every ounce of power I have left in my body. My muscles tremble violently under the
crushing pressure.
I twist my head sideways, desperately looking for help, and I see the shy boy standing just a few feet away.
He is completely frozen in his human form and almost butt naked, his grey eyes wide with terror as he stares directly at me while I fight for my life on the ground. He has a weapon in his hand, and he has a clear
shot at the monster’s back.
“Help me boy!” I scream at him, my voice raw and desperate as the wolf’s jaws snap closer to my cheek. “Kill
it! Help me!”
The boy looks at me, then looks at the terrifying demon wolf. He doesn’t do a single thing. Instead of helping, he turns away from me, drops his weapon, and runs off to hide behind a wall.
What a fucking coward!
The monster presses down harder, and I can feel the blade of my sword bending under its weight. Just when the demon wolf is about to bite my head completely off, something stops it.
It is Clara. In her grey wolf form, she jumps directly into the monster, slamming her heavy body into its side and knocking it completely off me.
I scramble backward on the ground, gasping for air as Clara tackles the demon wolf. She snaps her jaws, trying to pin the creature down, but the demon wolf is incredibly fast and stronger. It twists its smoking

body around, its massive mouth opening wide, before Clara can stop it, it bites down viciously on the top
part of Clara’s shoulder, tearing through her flesh and almost yanking her arm off.
Clara lets out a scream of pure agony in her wolf form, the sound tearing through the clearing.
“Nooo!” I scream, horror gripping my chest.
The demon wolf flings her aside, and Clara falls heavily into the dirt, shifting instantly back into her bloody human form. She lies there perfectly still, gasping weakly as blood wells up from her mangled shoulder.
A sudden, blinding rage consumes me. I push past the pain in my broken leg and run forward with my sword raised high. I bring the blade down with anger and slice it straight across the neck of the demon wolf.
The moment the steel cuts through its flesh, the monster lets out a dying hiss and turns into dust, disappearing into the wind.
I drop the sword and rush to where Clara is on the ground. I can’t stop the tears from streaming down my face as I gently pull her into my arms, holding her upper body against my chest. “Clara! You’ll be fine, I promise! I’m so sorry,” I sob, my hands shaking violently as I try to press down on the deep, bleeding wound on her shoulder. The countdown has started beeping. Two minutes left.
“Stay with me, Clara!”
In the background, Aloe and Sansa are almost done fighting off the remaining demon wolves, while the stupid, cowardly boy remains hidden behind a rock, doing absolutely nothing to help his pack.
I ignore them all, focusing entirely on trying to help Clara. The blood is escaping past my fingers, staining
the dirt.
Clara slowly opens her eyes to look up at me. A weak, painful smile spreads across her pale lips. ‘It’s okay, Lyra…” Her voice is incredibly faint and raspy. “Maybe… maybe I actually deserve this. For everything I did to you back at the pack. For making your life a living hell. I’m so sorry, Lyra Diamond.”
I shake my head as the tears blur my vision. “Don’t talk like that. Don’t say that. You don’t deserve this.”

Chapter 268
Without a second thought, I close my eyes tightly. I reach deep down into the very center of my soul, searching for the hidden core of my true nature. I tap into the ancient strength of my silver fox, pulling on
the raw essence of my life force.
I press my hands firmly against her chest, pouring essence directly into Clara.
A powerful, blinding white energy leaves my palms and travels straight into Clara’s body. The warmth of the magic vibrates through the air, filling the small space between us.
After a few silent seconds, Clara suddenly gasps loudly, chest heaving as she opens her eyes wide.
The deep gled wound on her shoulder completely knits itself back together, and her skin gradually
as the bleeding stops instantly.
