The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 274

Chapter 274

The first girl starts crying. It’s a desperate, high-pitched scream that scrapes against my nerves. “No, no, no!

Please! Don’t do this! Please!”

I can’t watch this. Why is my father doing this? What does he hope to gain? A stronger army? A way to control the whole world? He is worse than the Monpires. He is worse than the demons. He is a king, and yet

he acts like a butcher.

The sage moves to the first girl. She is sobbing now, begging for her life. He doesn’t even flinch. He jams the

needle into her neck.

She screams. It’s not just a cry, it’s a scream of absolute agony. She drops to the ground and begins to writhe. She is trembling so hard that the royals seated close to her actually push their chair back in fear.

Then, something else happens.

Her body begins to swell. Blue, pulsing streaks appear under her skin, spreading like fire all over her body. She’s changing. She isn’t a girl anymore. Her bones crack and pop, growing at an impossible rate.

In just a few seconds, the girl is gone. In place is a monster. The creature roars and rises, three times bigger than the human girl had been. It’s a full blown monster. My father just created a fucking monster.

“What is this?” someone yells.

“It’s a monstrosity!”

The creature suddenly jumps onto the table, shattering the wood. It snarls, spitting all over the people directly in front of it.

One of the leaders stands up to run, but he isn’t fast enough. The creature’s claws tear through the air. In one swift movement, it yanks the man’s head clean off his shoulders.

Blood sprays everywhere. It hits my face, my chest, staining my shirt a deep red. The room erupts into chaos. People are shouting, shoving each other, knocking over chairs.

The creature turns its glowing eyes toward the crowd, ready to kill another. Right before it lunges for the

next person, my father faces it. He doesn’t look afraid. He looks bored. He draws his sword, and with a single, practiced motion, he slices the monster’s head off.

It falls instantly, dead.

“Well,” my father says, wiping a speck of blood from his cheek with a silk handkerchief. “That was an unexpected mess.” He says as if he’s talking about food being spilled.

“The first experiment was unsuccessful. Let’s move on to the second.”

The room is silent again. Everyone is looking at him like he’s insane. Even the Monpires look surprised by

his decision to continue.

The second girl is sobbing harder now, dragging her feet as the guards pull her forward. She’s begging, pleading with anyone who will listen. “Don’t kill me please! I have a brother! He needs me! Please!”

The sage raises the needle again.

I don’t think. I just move.

I reach the sage in a blur of speed and hit him hard, sending him flying back against the wall. The syringe shatters on the floor. I grab the second girl by the arm and pull her toward the door.

“Run!” I yell at her. “Get out of here and never look back.”

She doesn’t wait. She bolts out the door, her footsteps echoing in the hall.

My father is standing now. He is trembling with rage. “Kai! What do you think you are doing!”

“I am not going to allow you to destroy innocent people!” I shout back, my voice filling the room. “Is this what we’ve come to? Creating abominations?”

Would you rather I test your diamond thief slave instead?” he asks, his voice cold.

My beast rises. It’s not just anger, it’s a protective, violent rage. I cross the distance between us in a heartbeat, pinning my father against the wall. No one interrupts us as I wrap my hand around his throat. I can feel the pulse in his neck.

“You dare go near her, father?” I whisper. My voice is deadly quiet, but every person in this room hears me. “You dare touch her, and you will regret ever having me as your son.”

My father looks at me, and for a second, I see it. Shock. Then, anger. He probably thought I had fully given

up Lyra.

“I’m out of here, I have better things to do at the academy than watch my father create and kill monsters.

See you, father.”

I walk out without looking back.

The run back to the academy is a blur. My mind is racing. Every time I close my eyes, I see the image of that innocent girl becoming a mutant monster. I see the look on my father’s face. I need to wash this off. I need to get out of these clothes.

When I finally reach the academy, I head straight for my apartment. I need a shower. I need to scrub the scent of the palace off me.

I walk through the door and stop.

Right. The whole place is a fucking mess.

I had forgotten that I trashed my apartment three days ago. I had been so furious that Lyra didn’t remember me, that I had smashed everything I owned. The floor is covered in broken glass and overturned furniture. It’s being renovated, but there’s no water, no power, and no privacy.

I curse under my breath. Where am I supposed to go?

Wait. Kara.

My sister should be in class right about now. Fortunately, I have a spare key to her place. I can shower there, change, and head to my own afternoon lecture.

I walk across the campus, making sure to keep my face down so I don’t have to talk to anyone. I don’t acknowledge the students who are staring at the bloodstains on my shirt.
