Chapter 276
Prince Kai is holding me tightly against his hard chest, looking down at me with a horrified expression. Up close, I can smell the faint scent of rain and cedar on him. Oh and he is still wearing absolutely nothing but his boxer briefs. His bare skin feels deliciously hot against mine. I instantly feel terrified and begin to wiggle my body, trying to force myself out of his tight grip. If push weakly against his hard, muscled shoulders.
“Put me down!” I yell at him, voice cracking with a mixture of pain and embarrassment. “Put me down right now!”
“Relax,” Kai says in a low and urgent voice as he grips me tighter to prevent me from slipping. “Just relax, Lyra. I’m not going to hurt you. I am just trying to help you. Stop moving around.”.
He leans forward and gently sets me down on the wider sofa, making sure my head rests on the armrest. The moment my body relaxes, I release a long, shaky breath. Slowly, the terrible banging inside my head begins to subside, the heavy pressure behind my eyes fades into a dull, manageable ache. The ringing in my ears finally stops, leaving only the quiet sound of our breathing.
I blink a few times, trying to clear my blurry vision so I can look at him. But before I can even turn my head to speak, he turns around and walks away and disappears down the hallway toward the back of the apartment.
1 sit up slightly, leaning against the back of the sofa, and glare at his retreating back in total silence. Why did he pretend to care so much just a second ago if he was just going to dump me here and run away the moment I was safe? Jerk prince. He is so hot and cold. One minute he is screaming at me for losing my meinories, the next minute he is carrying me like I am made of glass, and now he just abandons me.
A few seconds later, the sound of heavy footsteps echoes from the hallway again. Kai returns to the living room. I look up and notice that he now has a tall glass of cold water held tightly in his hand.
Oh. Maybe I judged him a bit too quickly this time.
But honestly, who can blame me for being so defensive around him? This is the exact same man who literally almost yanked my head off and broke my spine days ago just because I couldn’t remember who he was. I cannot forget how dangerous he can be. Kai walks over to the edge of the sofa, stops right in front of me, and extends his arm, holding out the glass toward my face.
“Drink,” he says. His tone is blunt and short, sounding exactly like a direct command.
I don’t take the glass right away. Instead, I glare up at him, crossing my arms tightly over my chest to show my defiance. “Is this how you command everyone around you just because you’re the crown prince?” I ask him, my voice dripping with pure irritation. “You think you can just walk into a room, bark orders at people, and expect them to jump without question?”
Kai closes his eyes for a long moment, running a hand through his dark hair, and lets out a long, heavy sigh. When he opens his eyes again, the hard, arrogant edge in his expression softens into something else.
“I’m sorry,” he says softly, his voice dropping to a gentle whisper. He looks down at the floor for a brief second, looking genuinely apologetic, before he forces himself to look back into my eyes. “Please, Lyra. Can you just drink this water? It will help you feel much better, I promise.”

Chapter 276
I stare up at him in mild surprise for a moment. Hearing the proud, terrifying crown prince say the word ‘please’ with such sincere vulnerability feels…unexpectedly good. It catches me off guard for a moment.
