The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance)

Chapter 277

I slowly reach out my hand and take the glass from his fingers, making sure our skin doesn’t touch. I lift the glass to my lips and begin to drink the cold water. My throat feels completely parched, so I swallow it quickly, but I feel very self-conscious the entire time because he is standing right there, watching my every move like a hawk. His dark eyes do not leave my face for even a single

second.

Once I’m done drinking, I lower the

lass and hand it back to him. “Thank you,” I mutter quietly, looking away.

He takes the empty glass from my hand. “Are you feeling okay now?” he asks in a quiet voice.

I simply nod my head, rubbing my right temple where the sharp pain used to be. “Yes. The headache is gone/It’s just a dull ache

now.”

Kai drops the empty glass on a small side table and then turns back around to face me. Before I can even ask what he is planning to do next, he steps back over to the sofa and gently pushes my shoulders downward, guiding my body to lie down flat on the long cushion. I don’t fight his touch this time, my body feels entirely drained of all its energy after the assessment test and the sudden flashback. Twice in a row actually,

He carefully arranges the pillow beneath my head to make sure it supports my neck comfortably. Then, he reaches for the knitted cover cloth resting on the back of the sofa. He spreads it gently over my entire body, tucking the edges around my shoulders to keep the chill of the room away from me.

Once he is completely done tucking me in, he doesn’t walk away. He just stands there, bending slightly over my resting form, and stares down at me silently. He looks as if he has a huge m weight resting on his chest. His eyes are dark and disturbed, looking as if he has a million things he desperately wants to say to me, but he stays quiet, just watching me breathe under the blanket.

My chest suddenly tightens with a strange feeling that I don’t understand at all. It is a completely unfamiliar sensation, a weird mixture of warmth, safety, and deep sadness. I look up into his striking green eyes, unable to stop myself from voicing the question bouncing around in my mind.

“Why are you being so nice to me all of a sudden?” I ask him.

Kai looks surprised at first, his dark eyebrows twitching upward in shock. Then, a small smirk plays at the corner of his lips, though the expression doesn’t quite manage to reach his sad eyes. “Why can’t I be nice to you?” he asks lightly, trying to deflect.

“Well, you’re the same person who almost broke my spine just because I lost my memories when I first woke up in the hospital. You weren’t exactly being nice to me then. You were terrifying.”

The moment the words leave my mouth, Kai’s face immediately changes. The playful smirk vanishes from his lips, replaced by a look of sadness. I have never seen a royal look so defeated. He drops his gaze to the floor for a long moment, his broad shoulders stumping forward as if a heavy weight just dropped onto his back.

When he finally forces himself to look back up at me, his eyes are swimming with regret.

Chapter 277

“Lyra, I’m… I’m so fucking sorry for how I acted when you first woke up,” his voice is thick, rough, and deeply strained. “I had absolutely no right to try to force you to remember me like that. You must have forgotten me for a reason, Lyra. I guess… I guess ! just deserve it. I deserve losing the most important thing in my entire life.”

The look that passes between Kai and me in that exact moment is incredibly intense. The air in the room feels heavy with an emotion so deep that it completely fills the space between us. I try to swallow, but my throat suddenly feels dry again I look at his face, wondering what kind of intense history we actually shared before my accident.

treat me badly, Prince Kai?” I ask him in a quiet, hesitant whisper. I know from the school rumors and from his own avior that he must have hurt me or kept me at a distance somehow in the past, but I’am curious to hear what his own
