I walk into the throne room. The scent of dried blood from the last ‘experiment’ still hangs heavily in the air, making my stomach twist. I don’t want to be here. But father had asked his guards to come escort me to the palace since I wouldn’t respond to his messages.

As i approach the center of the room, I realize we are not alone.

Sitting on a chair on the far side of the room is Princess Rina. The moment she sees me, her eyes narrow into dark slits, and she glares at me with pure

venom. I stop in my tracks, my jaw clenching tightly.

I remember the last time we were together at the bonfire. She had forced her lips onto mine, trying to claim me as if I belonged to her. My Lycan beast had snapped. I had wrapped my hand around her throat, squeezing her neck until her face turned completely blue and she almost died. She had avoided me like a plague since that day, keeping her distance at the academy. I honestly thought she had finally given up on her pathetic obsession with me. But now, seein the wicked, calculated look in her eyes, I realize that she is never going to stop.

‘Let me tear her throat out!’ Vlad growls deeply inside my mind, his claws scratching against my consciousness. ‘She’s practically the bitch that caused Lyra to walk cway from us that night and fall right into danger and lose her memory! Let me kill her once and for all, Kai.’

Vlad growls in pure frustration, but he goes quiet and simply paces around angrily in the back of my head.

I turn my gaze away from Rina, completely ignoring her presence as I walk up the steps to the throne. My father sits lazily on his golden seat, swirling a cup of dark wine in his hand. He looks completely unbothered. Like he hadn’t just slaughtered an innocent girl awhile ago.

“Why did you summon me back, father?” I ask, my voice cold, hard, and completely devoid of respect. “Illy hope it’s life-threatening-kind-of important. I have things to do back at the academy.”

King Geo sets his wine cup down on the stone armrest, his cold eyes locking onto mine. “You are the Crown Prince of this kingdom, Kai. You do not simply walk away from your king whenever you feel like it.”

“Well I did,” I reply, crossing my arms over my chest. “So state your business. Why am I here?”

My father leans forward and smiles a cruel, mocking smile. “I wanted to ask you a very simple question, my son. I wanted to ask you when exactly your mating ceremony with Princess Rina will be taking place. Her family is getting impatient, and frankly, so am I.”

“Oh, so that’s the important issue? Alright then. The answer is Never.”

I answer without a single second of hesitation in a calm, dry tone. “I’ve told you this a thousand times, father. I will never mate with her. You can arrange av many dinners and meetings as you want, bus my answer will always be the same. Never.”

Rina stands up abruptly from her chair, looking extremely furious with her hands clenched into fists a her sides. “Kai! You cannot keep distespecting me like this! Our alliance is crucial for the kingdom!”
