“Do your friends know that the mate you’re talking about was mine first?” I speak loudly, my voice shaking with rage as I step toward her. Do they know that you bully your own sister and make her take the blame for every single bad thing you do? We’re supposed to be family, but you hate me for no reason!”

The room suddenly goes quiet. The judging looks quickly shift from me to Daisy. She looks embarrassed as she realizes people are now looking at her,

wondering if she’s really a bully.

“Shut up!” Daisy’s eyes turn into a dark red color, showing the fury of her wolf. “I said shut up!”

She shoves me with so much wolf strength that my body actually leaves the floor. I feel myself flying backward across the room. I brace for the bone-

breaking impact as it hit the wall, but it doesn’t come.

Instead, I land into a pair of incredibly strong, solid arms.

I gasp, my eyes snapping open to find myself staring directly into the dark, intense gaze of Prince Kai.

He’s carrying me, cradled against his chest like I weigh nothing at all. The air between us is thick with a sudden, heavy tension, an energy so powerful and magnetic it makes my breath freeze. He holds me so tightly, his fingers digging into my waist, that I have no choice but to feel safe. It’s almost terrifying

that I feel protected in the arms of a monster.

After a long, silent moment of us staring at each other, he sets me back on my feet. And that’s when I notice Princess Kara standing right beside him.

“Lyra!” Kara says with her face full of worry. She reaches out and cups my face in her hands. “Are you alright? Did she hurt you?”

Tears are stinging my eyes, but I swallow them down and nod. “Yes… I’m fine, Kara,”

I don’t have time to say anything else because Kai’s hand grabs my hand in his. His grip is tight as he starts walking forward, dragging me along with him

toward where Daisy and her friends are standing.

The second Daisy sees Kai, the color drains from her face. The entire cafeteria follows suit, everyone steps out of the way, bowing their heads and shaking

with visible fear. It’s like a wave of terror is moving through the room.

“Y–Your Highness,” Daisy stammers as she tries to force a sweet, innocent smile on her face.

Before she can even say any other thing, Kai’s hand flies out. He grabs her by the throat, his fingers wrapping entirely around her neck, and lifts her off the

ground.

Daisy’s feet dangle in the air as she starts to claw helpless at his arms, choking from the pressure of being strangled.

Oh no! What is he doing?

Everyone gasps, but nobody dares to move. I can feel the raw, suffocating Lycan power radiating off him in waves.

“I’m going to let you go this once,” Kai growls, his voice sounding like thunder in the hall. ‘Because you’re just a young, over–excited she–wolf. But if you

ever try to bully her or anyone else again, I will break your bones and your wolf’s bones until you’re worse than wolfless. Do you understand me?”

Daisy’s face is turning purple, her eyes bulging as she struggles to draw air.

‘Do you fucking understand?!” Kai roars, the sound vibrating in my entire body.
