Chapter 291
A wave of shock and pure terror crashes over me, hitting me right in the gut. My mind completely goes blank. He knows. He knows exactly what she is. He knows about Wyndra. He knows about Lyra’s healing ability.
Before my brain can even process the danger of the situation, my instincts take over. I move in a split second of blinding speed and wrap my hand tightly around Sin’s cold, blue neck. I slam his body hard against the pillar behind him, feeling my fangs extending as a deadly growl tears from my throat.
“How the fuck do you know that?” I roar into his face, my grip tightening around his throat until the blue veins on his neck pulse violently. “Who told you If you whisper her name to a single soul, if you tell a single soul of what you just said, I will tear you limb from limb, you disgusting hybrid freak! I will
burn your entire clan to ashes!”
Sin doesn’t even attempt to fight back. He doesn’t claw at my hand, and he doesn’t try to use his vampire speed to escape. He just stands there, pinned against the stone with a calm, unbothered smile still on his blue lips despite the fact that I am choking him.
“Calm down, Prince Kai,” Sin says, his voice slightly strained but completely steady. “Think about it logically for a second. If I actually wanted to attack Lyr if I wanted to reveal her secret to your father or use her for my own gain, I would have done so a long time ago. I wouldn’t be standing here in a dark hallway talking to you.”
I stare at him, breathing heavily as I search his dark eyes for any sign of a lie or trap. My mind is spinning. I realize he’s somewhat right. If he wanted to destroy her, he could have told my father inside the throne room just now or earlier. He could have traded her secret for power..
Slowly, hesitantly, I ieosen my grip and lower my hand, stepping back a pace. I keep my fists clenched, refusing to let my guard down. “If you know who she is… why are you not trying to attack her? Why are you keeping quiet? What is your game, Sin? And what about your brother? does he know?”
Sin rubs his neck lightly, a small sigh escaping his lips. He looks around the empty hallway, making sure no guards are nearby, before looking back at me with a serious expression.
“Let me show you something, Prince Kai,” Sin says softly, gesturing down the adjacent corridor. “Can you come with me to my quarters? It’s private there.”
“No,” I refuse immediately, my voice hard. “I’m not going anywhere with monpire. Tell me what you want right here, or I’m leaving.”
Sin rolls his eyes, looking thoroughly annoyed. “I only want to show you why I am absolutely not interested in attacking or harming the phoenix fox, Kai. Lt concerns my people. Just follow me for five minutes. If you don’t like what you see, you can leave. This is the only way you can trust me not to harm your phoenix fox.”
“Don’t fucking calling her that!” 1 hiss angrily, glancing around the hallway in a panic. “Someone might hear you.”
i hesitate for a long, agonizing second. I desperately need to get back to the academy, but the fact that a monpipe leader knows Lyra’s true identity is a huge, terrifying wild card. I need to know what he wants.
“Fine,” 1 mutter tightly. “Five minutes. Lead the way.”
Sin turns around without a word and walks down the winding corridors of the palace, leading me deep into the western wing where the visiting foreigners are housed. He stops in front of a wooden door, unlocks it with a silver key, and steps inside. I follow him closely, my muscles tense, ready for an ambushi
The apartment in laige, dark, and decorated in heavy black and purple silks. Sin walks over to a large wouden desk in the cygner of the mom and picks up a small, sleek black device, like an advanced digital recording pad. He taps the screen a few times before turning it and to fare me
“Look at thu,” Sin ways, sliding the device across the desk toward me.

step forward hesitantly. My eyes land on the screen. A video begins to play. The footage shows a group of people walking through a beautiful garden with red flowers. They look like humans at first glance, but as the camera gets closer, I notice their features. Their skin is incredibly white, almost glow smooth, and completely flawless. They have striking, beautiful faces, looking like perfect celestial beings as they laugh and talk with each other.
I squint at the screen, my eyes locking onto a tall, handsome young man in the center of the video. He has the same sharp jawline and the same eyes a
The same sin that is a blue half demon.
I look up from the screen to face the creature standing in front of me. “Wait… is that you?”
“Yes,” Sin confirms, his voice dropping into a quiet, deeply sorrowful ton. He looks down at the screen with a look of profound sadness and longing or face. “That is me. In the past. Before the curse.”
I look back down at the video, completely stunned. “How come you don’t look like a monpire in this footage? You don’t have blue skin. You don’t have bulging blue veins or that demonic, monstrous look. You look… perfect. You look like a regular vampire.”
“Because that is exactly what we were, Kai,” Sin explains softly, leaning against the edge of the desk. “We were not always these blue-skinned monsters see today. In the past, we were not monpires at all. We were simply vampires. A pure, ancient race of immortal beings.”
He takes a deep breath, his chest rising heavily. “And contrary to the horrible horror stories your kingdom spreads about us, we didn’t use to survive on human flesh or hunt people down for blood. We only drank blood for fun, as a luxury, or from willing donors. We were good, gentle, and deeply private beings who just wanted to live in peace in our own territories. Until everything changed.”
