Chapter 293
But her scent is laced with thick layers of pure fear and shock.
I reach the door of her dorm apartment, the luxury duplex suite that I had secretly arranged for her and her friends to live in through the academy regi
ensuring she would have the best accommodation without ever knowing it came frote me.
I don’t even bother knocking. I push the front door open with a bang, storming inside the living room. The apartment is quiet, but the scent of fear lead straight down up the stairs and toward her bedroom.
The bedroom door is wide open. I sprint inside, my fists clenched, ready to rip an intruder apart.
But the scene waiting for me inside makes my blood run completely ice-cold, instantly replaced by a blinding, murderous rage.
Lyra is sitting on the edge of her bed, her entire body shaking violently as tears stream down her pale face. She looks completely terrified, clutching her arms around herself. Her friends are on the other side, looking worried and terrified as well.
And standing right beside her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders and pulling her smali body close to his chest in a protective embrace, is Roman.
My vision turns completely red, and a low, savage growl tears from the very depths of my chest, vibrating the floorboards of the room.
Calm down Kai. Calm the fuck down. But of course I don’t listen to my mind.
“What the fuck is going on here?” I yell, my voice dropping to a deadly, dangerous register as I step into the roomy eyes staring directly at the two of
them.
I notice how Lyra flinches at my voice, her wide, tear-filled blue eyes snapping up to look at me, her lower lip trembling. She looks like she just witnessed
horror show.
Roman doesn’t let go of her right away. Instead, a slow, incredibly macking smirk spreads across his face as he looks up at me, his arms staying wrapped around my mate. “Oh, look who decided to finally join us after hours of being absent, Welcome back, crown prince.”
He tilts his head toward the center of the bed. “Someone broke into Lyra’s room while we were at the tournament game. They left a message for her. A very bloody one, in fact.”
That’s when I notice the bed for the first time. My gaze land on a blood-soaked, ruined textbook, and right on top of it sits the severed head of a stuffed fox toy, its glass eyes staring blankly at the ceiling. A note sits beside it, the dark words visible even from here: I’m coming for you.
A chill goes down my spine, but the sight of Roman touching her completely overrides my fear. I should be the one protecting her. Not him. Damn my father for summoning me at the wrongest time.
“And what are you doing here?” I ask him, taking another step forward.
“It is completely unsafe for her to spend thenight here in this building,” Roman continues, his voice confident as he tightens his grip on her shoulder, pulling het even closer to his side. “She is absolutely terrified. So, I just suggested that I take her bax any private apartment for the nigh; where i cart personally protect her and she already agreed to came with me. We were just about to pack her thingy.”
Every single muscle in my body coils tight. Viad is absolutely roaring inside my mind, clawing at my eyes, dreperate to take control and sep Romany spine into a million pieces.

Roman’s smirk completely vanishes. He slowly releases Lyra and stands up from the bed to his full height, facing me with an equally furious glare. He st
in front of Lyra, shielding her from me as if he is her protector.
“And if I don’t?” Roman barks back, his jaw clenching tightly as he challenges me. “What the fuck are you gonna do about it, Kai?”
