Chapter 295
Kai looks down at me, that’s when be notices how truly exhausted I am. His expression changes immediately and the rigid posture of his body shifts back. He steps away from Roman, dropping his hands to his sides. A look of regret crosses tris face, as if he angry with himself for losing his temper in front of
“You’re right, Lyra,” Kai says, his voice dropping into a quiet sincere whisper. “I’m sorry.”
Before Roman can even say another word, the sound of footsteps echoes from the hallway. I already know who it is. Nick rushes straight into my bedroom. He is panting heavily, his face pale with fear, and his hair is completely messy from running.
The moment his eyes fall on me, a look of relief fills his face. He rushes through the room, ignoring the two royal princes, and wraps his arms tightly aroun
me in a fierce hug.
“Oh thank the Goddess,” Nick breathes into my hair, holding me tightly. He pulls back slightly, stanning my body to make sure I’m not injured. “I heard someone broke in. I was so worried that you’d be hurt, Lyra. But thank the Goddess your bodyguards are here as usual.”
Nick pulls away and turns around, throwing a sharp, protective glare at both Kai and Roman, as if he expects them to be the source of the trouble. Amara lets out a giggle, covering her mouth with her hand when Isolde nudges her sharply in the ribs.
Nick turns back to me, his brow furrowed deeply. “What the fuck actually happened here?”
I shake my head, my hands still trembling slightly as I turn around and point toward my bed. “I don’t know. We just got back from the tournament game and found the door unlocked. Look.”
Nick follows the direction of my finger till his gaze lands on the bloodsoaked sheets, the bloated, ruined textbook, and the severed fox head toy. He steps closer, and reads the note out loud in a tense whisper. “I’m coming for you. What the hell is this??”
Nick snaps his head around, looking directly at the boys. “Who could have done this? Do you think it’s those disgusting demons trying to make a statement? Or someone from a rival kingdom that somehow knows about Lyra’s secret?
“I have absolutely no idea, the academy’s perimeters are specifically designed to alert us whenever a demon or rogue shifter is even a mile away. So I have no idea how any demon would have gotten into the campus and all the way to the girls apartment. It shouldn’t be possible.” Kai says, his voice turning completely cold and frustrated as he steps up to examine the bed. He keeps his distance from the mattress, looking around the window frame and the door as if searching for signs.
“But fortunately, it’s a good thing that I installed security cameras around the main entrances of this apartment block, and even some in parts of the common house area. We can go check the camera feed right now and see whoever entered your apartment when you guys were out at the arena. We can’t get our hopes up though because it’s very likely the bastard covered up himself but at least it’ll give us pointers.”
The room is quiet for a second as I pause at his words. I slowly turn to face Kai, my eyebrows drawing together in suspicion.
“Wait,” my voice cuts through the heavy silence. “Did you just say you installed cameras in our private apartment? How exactly do you have the access to do that, Prince Kai? Does the apartment actually belong to you?.”
