The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 305

#hapter 305

I nod my head against the pillow, my throat so tight that can barely form the words. “Yes…” I whisper, a broken sob escaping me. “I had a horrible dream.. we were together, and then this… this monster struck you. It killed you right in front of me.” The memory of his lifeless eyes flashes in my mind, and I start crying all over again, burying my face in my hands.

To my surprise, Kai chuckles as if I just cracked a joke.

He gently pulls my hands away from my face, using his fingers to clean the fresh tears from my face. “Is that it?” he asks, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.

I glare up at him through my eyelashes. “It’s not funny, Kai! I watched you die!”

Kai laughs softly, shaking his head. “It kind of is, baby,” he murmurs, his green eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that makes my heart skip a beat. “Because here I am, agonizing over the fact that I might have lost you forever because you forgot me… but you’re somehow dreaming about us being together? Isn’t fate a funny thing most times?”

“Well, I think it was bound to happen,” I mutter defensively, looking away from him. “Since I’ve been remembering tiny bits about you and-”

“Wait.”

The sudden command makes me freeze instantly. I look back up and feel my stomach drop. The playful, expression on Kai’s face has completely vanished, replaced by a tense expression.

“You remember something about me?” he asks, his voice dropping into a low, demanding register. “What do you remember, Lyra?”

Shit.

A wave of panic hits me as I realize what I just did. I slipped up. So much for keeping it a safe secret like Roman told me to do. Now I’m trapped beneath Kai’s unyielding stare, and there is absolutely no way to take the words back.

“Tell me,” Kai presses, leaning in closer, his hands still gripping the mattress on either side of my head, completely trapping me beneath his massive frame.

I swallow hard, feeling my face instantly burn with a flush that spreads all the way down to my neck.

“Well… I subtly remember healing you in the past,” I whisper, taking a breath before forcing the rest of the truth out. “And… I remember the moment you…§ mean, the moment I saw you naked.”

The silence that follows my admission is completely deafening.

Kai stares down at me silently for what feels like an eternity. The shock on his face is palpable. His eyes search mine, looking for any sign of a joke, but as the bright red blush on my face deepens, the reality of my words finally sinks in. The shock slowly fades, but it isn’t replaced by joy or relief.

Instead, a look of heartbreak settles over his handsome features. it makes my chest tighten.

“So you’re getting your memories of me back…” Kai says softly, “But you didn’t think to tell me? Why, Lyra?”

I let out a sigh, the guilt weighing heavily on my shoulders as I look down at the blanket. I can’t tell him the real reason, I can’t tell him about Roman ́s warning, and I certainly can’t tell him about the faceless demon’s threat to murder him if I remember the past. “I just… I wasn’t sure if I should,” I tell him: quietly, hating how weak my excuse sounds.

Chapter 305

Estler aut a harshy breath, pulling his fafid: hack as if he’s just been hurned. The vulnerability in his green eyes is devastating. “Alright. I get it,” he says,

his goiz iated with a sudden coldness that cats right through me. “You really hate me and don’t want me in your life anymore, don’t you? You’d rather beep

me in the dark than admit we have a past.

“What? No! Kai, that’s not true. I do want you-

“Don’t. Lie to me,” Kai warns, glaring at me as he holds my chin in his fingers tight.

I stare up at him, my breath completely trapped in my throat. The proximity, the intense heat radiating from his skin, the anger in his eyes, and the lingering terror of almost losing him in the dream all collide inside my chest like a tidal wave.

I look at his lips, so close to mine, and the intense, magnetic pull of the mate bond becomes completely impossible to fight anymore.

I don’t want to hide. I don’t want to be safe. I just need him.

Without another thought, without considering the consequences, I do the one thing I’ve been desperately wanting to do all night.
