withs jolt, screaming on top of my lungs. For a moment, I can see is absolute darkness. My lungs are gasping for air as if I had actually been druwning in blood, and a loud ringing echoes inside my ears. I’m rambling violentry, tears pouring down my face in a as I continue to cry and scream into the empty space of the room.
“Lyra, baby, look at me! It’s me, Kar. I’m here. It’s just a nightmare.”
The deep voice cuts through the ringing in my ears. Suddenly, I feel calloused hand’s gently frame my face.
I blink through the blur of my tears, my chest heaving as Kai’s face finally comes into focus. r’e is kneeling on the edge of the bed, leaning directly over me. He looks completely alive. His green eyes are wide with worry, and his hands are trembling slightly as his thumbs softly stroke my wet cheeks, desperately trying to soothe the violent tremors wracking my body.
The relief that crashes over me is so overwhelming that it hurts. Tears of joy stream down my face as the horror of the dream begins to fade. It was just a dream. The blood, the demon, the blade, none of it was real. He is actually alive. He is right here, with me, exactly like he promised the would be before I fell
asleep.
Kai leans closer, his breath warm against my forehead as he tries to calm my racing nerves. “Did you have a nightmare?” he asks softly, his voice thick with
concern.
