Chapter 323
Lyra
Kai violently kicks open the door to the medical room. I run right behind him and my eyes widen the moment I see Roman. The head doctor and nurses bow down to greet Kai as we both approach the bed. He is lying flat on the hospital bed, his eyes tightly closed, his face completely pale and drenched in sweat. I watch as a nurse plunges a massive syringe into his IV line. Almost instantly, a violent tremor rattles Roman’s entire body. He vibrates against the mattress, a groan of pure agony ripping from his throat.
Kai doesn’t care about the medical team. He storms forward, slamming his hand on the railing of the bed as he towers over his cousin.
“Roman!” Kai yells out. “Did you just mention the demon Varlac? What the fuck were you talking about just now? Answer me! Tell me
right now!”
Roman only lets out another weak, breathless moan, his head rolling helplessly to the side.
I step forward and grab Kai’s arm, pulling him away from the bed with all my strength. “Kai, stop! Get away from him!” I yell, tugging him backward into the other side of the room. “Can’t you see the state he’s in right now? You are only making it worse! Please, just let the
doctors treat him first then you ask him whatever you want to ask.”
Kai tries to pull away from my grip, his green eyes burning with intensity and fury. “No, Lyra! You don’t understand. He just mentioned the name Varlac. I need to know what he’s talking about, and I need to know it right now.”
I look between Roman’s shaking form and Kai’s furious face. My heart hammers against my ribs. “Who is Varlac, Kai?”
A look of hesitation suddenly crosses Kai’s features. He pauses, dropping down his gaze to meet mine. The fury in his eyes slightly changes to something guarded, as if he slipped up when he spoke of varlac. “Don’t worry about him at all, flower. It’s none of your
concern.”
“Of course I’ll worry!” I say, throwing my hands up in the air in frustration. “Why do you always keep these things from me, Kai? What is this about? Does the name have anything to do with the creepy letter I got in my room? Tell me the truth!”
Kai looks completely wary now, his jaw clenching as he looks around the room. He opens his mouth, about to answer my question, when the hospital door suddenly swings open.
Rapid footsteps echo on the floor as Amara and Isolde rush into the room. They bypass Kai completely and throw their arms tightly around my shoulders in a warm hug. Oh, I missed my friends for those few hours. I look at Kai and see how he’s still glaring at Roman as if he wants to enter into Roman’s head and find out whatever secret is there.
Oh goddess, Lyra!” Amara gasps, pulling back to look at my face. “We came as fast as we could. How is Roman? What happened to him?”
His…his limbs are broken,” I whisper, my voice shaking as I gesture toward the bed. “The doctors are trying to stabilize him right now and put his bones back because he’s somehow not healing.

Chapter 323
The door is opened once again and I turn around to see Nick walking into the room. He comes straight to me, looking worried as he opens his arms. A sigh of relief escapes me as I step right into him and hug him tightly, burying my face against his chest. Even though I still don’t know him much since his sudden arrival, a strong sense of safety wraps around me whenever I am in his arms. That alone assures me that he has to be truly family. That and the pillow of matching white hair on our heads. He wraps his arms around me, glaring over my head at Kai.
The door opens again, and Damon walks in, his expression completely grim as he marches straight up to Kai.
“Your highness, I’m going to need everyone to step out right now, please.” the lead pack doctor says to Kai, looking exhausted and
frustrated probably because of how crowdy our group has made the room. “The patient’s vitals are dropping. We need to reset the bones
unnaturally. If you could give us some space please.”
We all step out of the hospital room, the heavy door clicking shut behind us.
A tense conversation starts immediately in the hallway. Kai and Damon pace back and forth as they try to figure out who could have hurt
