“There’s no way a low-level rogue did this,’ Damon mutters, his arms crossed over his chest. “To snap a royal Lycan’s limbs like twigs? It takes demonic strength.”

“He went outside the perimeter,” Kai growls, clenching his fist at his sides. “He was meeting someone. I know it.”

“It doesn’t matter who he was meeting,” Nick suddenly interrupts, his voice cutting through like a blade. I pull away from my brother as he steps toward Kai, his eyes narrowing. “What matters is that this academy is a death trap. We still have no idea who pulled that shit stunt in her room. Now Prince Roman is practicing broken into pieces. It’s always one bad thing or the other happening. That’s why I want my sister to come with me. I am taking her away from here today because I still don’t think she is safe at this academy.”

Kai stops pacing instantly. A lethal growl vibrates from his chest as he turns to face my brother. “She isn’t going anywhere with you, fox

boy. She stays under my protection so she’s with me.”

“Your protection?” Nick scoffs, letting out a bitter laugh. “She was attacked by demons under your nose, she’s getting death threats in her

bedroom, and now your own cousin is mutilated! You call that protection? She leaves with me.”

“Step back and shut the fuck up before I tear your throat out,” Kai snarls, stepping directly into Nick’s face, his Lycan presence flaring so

heavily that the air becomes thick.

“Try it, Prince,” Nick spits back, shifting his posture as he prepares to fight. “You have to know I’m not scared of you. And I won’t kiss your ass like your beta does. Stop acting like you have this figured out. You’re only making it worse. Lyra is my sister and I have a right to

protect her!”

“Oh, like you protected her all these years?! You’ve been a ghost all her life when you could have been protecting her from her shit family but what did you do? Hide in the shadows until you felt it was right for you to come out. Even if I wanted to leave Lyra to anyone else, it wouldn’t be with a fucking coward like you. She has more chance of being safe with our royal guard dog than with you.”

Nick growls in anger, his eyes glowing blue as he clamps his hands around Kai’s neck. Kai is ready to fight as well.

“Stop it! Both of you, just stop!” I yell, stepping right between them, pushing my hands against their chests to keep them apart. ‘Roman is lying in there dying, and you two are trying to kill each other? Stop!”

“Tell him to let you come with me, Lyra! You’re safer with me and your friend!”

“She goes nowhere with you! She stays with me alone!” Kai shoots back.

They continue to argue, completely ignoring my protests as they shout over my head, practically caging me in between them.

I’m about to yell at them one more time when something else happens. A loud, static hum snaps inside my ears.

1 freeze as the sound of Kai and Nick’s arguing fades into a distant, muffled echo. A freezing, terrifying weight settles into my brain. Before I can even gasp, blurry images begin to flash behind my eyes, and a scary voice echoes directly inside my head, loud and hollow.
