spent the whole day at Amara and Isolde’s new dorm room. They were so excited for me, acting like I was heading to a royal ball instead of a simple outing. They let me borrow one of their nicest dresses and spent hours prepping me. By the time they were done, I barely recognized the girl in the mirror.
As I step out of the dorm building, my heart races in my chest. I see Roman leaning against a huge, sleek power bike. He looks absolutely handsome and adorable. He has a red leather jacket on and a helmet tucked under his arm, looking more like a rebel than a prince. A mix of fear and excitement bubbles up inside me.
I keep telling myself I have nothing to be scared of. Kara spoke to me earlier today and confirmed that she and Prince Kai had to attend an important, boring meeting. She said it was a function Kai wasn’t allowed to miss under any circumstances. When I told her I was still terrified of her brother finding out, she just laughed and told me not to mind him. She insisted he would be busy all night and even encouraged me to have some fun with her cousin.
Thank the Goddess for that.
For the first time since I arrived at this academy, the shadow of the Crown Prince feels like it’s finally fading.
So, here I am, wearing a short but cute flowery blue dress that fits me perfectly. My silver hair is pinned up in a stylish bun, and my face
is touched with just enough light makeup to make my eyes pop. I am actually ready to go on a date with a prince. It feels like a dream, or
maybe a very dangerous hallucination.
The moment Roman looks up and sees me, his entire face lights up. He gives me a bright, genuine smile that reaches his eyes.
He steps off the bike and hurries toward me. When he reaches me, he doesn’t just say hello. He takes my hand and brushes a light kiss on
my knuckles.
I feel my face heat up instantly.
“You look incredible, Lyra,” he says. His voice is warm and sincere.
I look down at my shoes, trying to hide my blush. “Thanks. You don’t look too bad yourself.”
He chuckles, the sound low and pleasant. He pulls me forward toward the bike and holds it steady, helping me climb onto the back. The leather is cool against my legs. Once I am settled, he climbs in front of me.
“Where are we going?”
He turns around and reaches out to put a helmet around my head. He clicks the strap under my chin, his fingers grazing my skin for a second. “The place I’m taking you to is a surprise. But don’t worry, it’s not far from the academy grounds. We’ll be back before curfew.”

I finally let out a long breath and relax. I believe him. Roman doesn’t have the sharp, wicked edges that his cousin has. With him, I feel like a person, not a piece of property.
“Okay, I say.
He starts the engine, and the bike roars to life. The vibration hums through my body. “Hold on tight,” he tells me.
I hesitate for a second, then reach forward and wrap my arms firmly around his torso. He doesn’t waste any time. He kicks the kickstand
up and speeds off, the wind whipping past us as we leave the dorm area behind.
