Chapter 72
Lyra
I stare at the chalkboard, but the white chalk lines are just a blur. Professor Vane keeps talking in the background, explaining something about historical pack territories, but I can’t hear a single word he’s saying. My mind is stuck. It’s been exactly 43 hours since it happened vet I am still trapped in that one
moment in Kara’s room.
I can still feel the pressure of Kai’s lips on mine.

I close my eyes for a second, and it all rushes back. The way he crashed onto mine like he was drowning and I was the only thing that could give him air. I should have pushed him away. I should have stopped him. I’m his slave, and he is the man who has spent weeks making my life miserable. But the moment
he deepened the kiss, holding me like his entire life depended on it, my brain just stopped working. I didn’t pull back. I kissed him back.
My face heats up just thinking about it. I feel a wave of embarrassment so strong it makes me want to crawl under the desk and disappear.
“You liked it,’ Wyndra’s voice purrs in the back of my mind. She sounds far too amused for my liking. ‘You can pretend all you want, Lyra, but i felt your heart.
It wasn’t just fear. You’re attracted to him.’
‘Shut up, Wyndra’, I snap back internally. I am not attracted to him. He’s a monster. I hate him.’
‘Hate and passion are two sides of the same coin, my girl’ she counters with a playful tone, clearly enjoying this. ‘Why else did you melt into him? Why did
you wrap your arms around his neck?’
‘I was in shock!’ I argue, gripping my pen so hard I think it might snap. ‘It was a moment of weakness. It will never happen again. I’m meant to hate him, not be close to him. He probably feels the same way. That’s why he’s been gone for forty-eight hours.’
since that kiss, Prince Kai has vanished. No messages, no tasks, nothing. And I know exactly why.
He’s probably disgusted with himself. He probably woke up the next morning and realized he had kissed a wolfless slave and felt like he needed to go wash his mouth out with soap. The thought makes a sharp sting of hurt poke at my chest, which only makes me angrier.
I don’t care where he is. I hope he stays gone. I promise myself right now that if he ever tries to kiss me again, I’ll bite his lip off.
“Lyra? Earth to Lyra?”
almost empty. I flinch a little, and my pen slides across my book. I look up to see Amara and Isolde standing over me. The classroom is almost empty. I didn’t even hear
the bell ring
“Oh,’ I stammer, blinking rapidly. “Is class over?”
Amara laughs, leaning on the desk. “Over? Girl, the teacher left fifteen minutes ago. You’ve been staring at that wall like you were trying to set it on fire with your mind. What is going on with you?”
“Um, Nothing,” I say quickly, stuffing my books into my bag. ‘I was just… thinking about the lecture.”
Isolde raises an eyebrow, a playful smirk on her lips. “Really? Because you’re blushing. Is it Prince Roman? Did he send you another secret note?”
“No!” I say, maybe a little too loud. I feel the heat in my cheeks blooming. “It’s not Roman.”

“She didn’t deny it.” Isolde squeals, fellowing me as Fhury toward the door. “Lyra, wait! Did something happen? We saw how he acted in the arena. Tell us
everything!TM
“Nothing happened!” I insist, walking fast down the hallway. “He’s my master. He was just… being territorial.”
“You aren’t a thing, and that look he gave the King wasn’t just about property,” Amara says, catching up to my side. “Come on, Lyra. Just a tiny detail? Is he
a good kisser?’
I stumble over my own feet. “I wouldn’t know! Stop it!
They both laugh, clearly enjoying my misery. I try to keep my face straight, but the more they tease me, the more I feel like my secret is written all over my
forehead. To distract them, I change the subject.
“I’m going to see Erika,” I announce. “I heard she’s in the General Hall.”
Amara and Isolde both stop laughing. They exchange a worried look.
“Erika?” Isolde asks. “Are you sure? She’s been in a foul mood since she failed her last wolf assessment test. She’s been so jealous and bitter lately, especially
