I lean against the wall with my jaw tight. It’s been that way since I stepped out. Kara is standing right next to me, leaning back with her arms crossed Damon is a few feet behind us. He isn’t even paying attention to the tension radiating off me. Instead, he’s busy leating over a level 3 student, Cashing that smirk he uses when he thinks he’s found his true mate. The clown still believes that there’s someone out there for him.

My focus isn’t on them, though. My gaze keeps flashing back to the doos of Lyra’s room. Every second Roman stays in there feels like an hour of my life being stripped away. I have to physically force my feet to stay planted on the floor. If I don’t, I’m going to barge in there and rip Roman’s head off his shoulders.

The way he looked at her back there… It made me want to lose my mind. And then he had the nerve to kiss her cheek.

Fuck.

Vlad growls deep in my chest, low and vibrating.

Lyra is mine. I don’t care what the laws say or who else thinks they can get close to her. She belongs to me and the thought of anyone else touching her or even looking at her for too long drives me into a blind rage. I know I probably sound like a lunatic, but I can’t help it. I can’t stop feeling possessive about her.

“You’re doing it again,” Kara says.

I snap my head toward her with a glare. But my sister isn’t intimidated. In fact, she chuckles.

“What?” I spit out.

“Watching you torture yourself because of someone else has become my favorite hobby,” she says with mischievous glint in her eyes. “You’re like a ticking time bomb, Kai. It’s entertaining.”

I open my mouth to ask her what the hell she means by that, but the sound of the door handle turning cuts me off. Roman steps out of Lyra’s room. He looks calm as he starts walking straight toward me.

I push my body off the wall and stand up straight, crossing my arms over my chest. Vlad is pacing in the back of my mind, snapping his teeth. have to ball

“I was holding back. I-should have made it a hundred and fifty. Maybe then you would have learned to stay away.”

Roman’s face goes red. He looks like he wants to swing at me. I can see the muscles in his neck tightening and his fingers twitching at his sides. He’s desperate to reclaim some of his dignity, to prove that he isn’t afraid of me.

But I see the flicker in his eyes. It’s the look of someone who knows exactly how the fight would end. He knows he’ll never win against me. He knows that if he even raises a hand, I’ll have a valid reason to finish what I started and beat the absolute shit out of him.

I’m practically begging him to do it. I lean in just a bit more, giving him the opening. But he’s smart enough not to take the bait and moves backward.

“You’re very lucky I didn’t tell my father exactly how you broke those bones,” Roman says, his voice tight.

I can’t help it. I let out a laugh. The idea of him running to his father like a child is hilarious. “And what would your father have done, Roman? He has no authority over me. I’m the crown Prince, remember?”

Roman’s face squeezes, and he steps even closer, refusing to back down. “I don’t care if you’re a powerful Lycan prince. I’m also a Lycan and a Prince, too. And I’ll fight for Lyra to the death if I have to. She deserves someone like me. Someone who genuinely cares about her.”

The smile vanishes from my face instantly. My vision clouds with a sudden fury at his words. Before he can even react, I grab him and slam him against the wall, my hand tight around his throat. I lean in close until our noses are almost touching, my voice a harsh growl.

“Stay the fuck away from Lyra,” I warn him. “I won’t tell you again.”

Roman laughs at me mockingly. “Why are you so bothered about her being with someone else, Kai? Are you in love with her? Also, don’t you already have a

mate of your own?”
