The Mad Princess and the Dying Prince novel Chapter 126

"Lady, please have some spiced cider."

Lucia Beaumont looked up. The serving girl's tray held seven or eight small porcelain cups.

Behind her on the path, several other maids approached in succession, each carrying a tray.

They were clearly passing through to serve the assembled guests. Seeing Lucia first and offering her a drink made perfect sense.

Lucia stood up.

The maid held the tray out to her. The cups were filled with fragrant, sweet cider, all in equal portions.

Lucia was indeed a little thirsty, so she took a cup. "Thank you."

The maid curtsied slightly and walked away with the remaining cups. The maids following her carried various items, all exquisite, small-portioned foods.

Princess Corinna was offering a meatless feast today, but Lucia hadn't expected it to be served in such a novel manner.

Holding her cider, she looked out over the gardens and noticed another table set up beside the pavilion, where the food was being laid out.

Transcribing sacred texts could wait. If there was food, she might as well try some.

Lucia looked at the cider in her cup and took a sip.

Not far away, Aurelia Beaumont quickly averted her gaze, looking slightly tense.

Thankfully, Lucia drank it.

Lucia walked back with her cup, but Princess Corinna called out to her.

"Lucia Beaumont, come eat! For the sake of my uncle, Prince Jareth, I won't mistreat you. Eat up, then get to transcribing the manuscripts."

The others had already taken their seats around the table. Lucia glanced over; their maids seemed to be holding holy texts, indicating everyone had chosen what to transcribe.
