The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 109

Liam stared at Sarah as if she had grown a second head. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, a sharp pinch on his arm stopped him.

He caught on immediately, shifting smoothly into a doting smile.

"What took you so long? I've been waiting forever."

Sarah offered a sultry smile. "You know I hate these kinds of events. If my dad hadn't forced me, I wouldn't have come at all."

She then turned to Adrian. "Mr. Lowell. Long time no see."

Adrian swallowed the words he had been about to say. He had intended to probe whether Sarah actually was Liam's girlfriend.

Clearly, he didn't need to ask anymore.

"Isn't this a coincidence?" Liam chuckled. "Mr. Lowell was just asking about my girlfriend, and here you are."

Sarah lightly swatted his chest. "That's what you get for not waiting for me and running off on your own. If you do that again, I'm going to be mad at you."

Jocelyn couldn't hold it in any longer. She turned her back to them and stifled a laugh.

These two were putting on an Oscar-worthy performance.

Thank God Liam hadn't called her bluff on the spot. Otherwise, explaining why he had drunkenly hugged her last time would have been a nightmare.

"Oh, right. Mr. Lowell, there are a few people I'd like to introduce you to," Liam offered. "If you're not too busy, want me to walk you over and make some introductions?"

Adrian was more than willing. He shot Jocelyn a look of approval before following Liam.

Liam walked a few steps, then glanced back and wiggled his eyebrows at Jocelyn.

Her smile widened.

It wasn't long before Liam returned.

"All done. Now you can give your husband a good report."

Jocelyn gave a cold laugh. "Don't call him my husband. It makes my skin crawl."

Liam paused, slightly taken aback. "No wonder you told me to just brush him off. But wait... can one of you explain to me when exactly I became Miss Sarah's boyfriend?"

Jocelyn shook her head, exasperated. "There you go again."

Liam dropped his grin, turning serious. "But honestly, this Mr. Lowell doesn't seem totally heartless toward you. I can tell he's got some feelings for you."

Jocelyn couldn't care less what kind of feelings Adrian had.

"Whether he has feelings or not doesn't matter to me anymore."

Liam blinked. "Why? Planning to divorce him?"

Jocelyn instantly regretted speaking so freely.

Sarah quickly jumped in. "Why are you asking so many questions? That's Jocelyn's business. Stay out of it."

Liam's roguish smile returned. "I see how it is. You don't consider me part of the inner circle yet. Fine, I won't ask."

He then let out a heavy, fake sigh. "I knew I shouldn't have come tonight. I'd have been better off keeping Julian company. Now I'm flying solo. How incredibly lonely and cold I feel."
