"Adrian!" Claire practically dove behind her brother. "He's a murderer! He's been to prison! Stay away from him!"
Adrian instantly regretted bringing her. The foolish girl believed whatever anyone told her.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Bancroft. Please excuse her," Adrian said, putting on a highly polite front. "This is my younger sister, Claire. She's immature and speaks without thinking. If she offended you, please forgive her."
Seeing Liam again, Adrian treated him with the utmost respect.
But Liam didn't return the courtesy.
"Your sister didn't offend me. She's just highly disrespectful to your wife."
Jocelyn wasn't surprised by Liam's bluntness. Having worked with him for years, the young master's unorthodox behavior was nothing new to her.
Adrian offered a token reprimand. "Claire, what did you do now?"
Claire lied through her teeth. "I didn't do anything! I remembered everything you told me in the car."
"See? Not only is she rude, she's a liar too," Liam said, clicking his tongue. "Mr. Lowell, it looks like your sister is in desperate need of some education. If people find out the great CEO of Momentum AI has such an unpresentable sibling, they'll laugh you right out of the room."
Adrian's pride took a hit.
When a family member misbehaved, you disciplined them behind closed doors. Being called out like that in public by someone outside the family was infuriating.
But given Liam's status and connections, Adrian swallowed his anger.
"I'm not sure what my sister did to make you so upset, Mr. Bancroft."
Liam offered a half-smile, his tone lingering between a joke and a threat. "I wouldn't say I'm upset. I just can't stand the sight of it. A woman showing absolutely zero respect for her brother’s wife, to the point of physically assaulting her. Mr. Lowell... don't you think that's crossing the line?"
Jocelyn almost laughed. "Physically assaulting" was laying it on a bit thick.
Claire furiously talked back. "What do you mean 'assaulting'?! You're exaggerating! All I did was shove her a little!"
Adrian decided to change the subject and make small talk. "Are you here alone today, Mr. Bancroft?"
Without thinking much of it, Liam replied, "Of course."
"Your girlfriend didn't come with you?"
"Girlfriend?"
Jocelyn quickly intervened. "Mr. Bancroft, where's Sarah?"
Liam looked utterly confused. "She's..."
Before he could finish, a hand slipped through his arm.
Sarah, wearing a stunning silver gown encrusted with diamonds, stepped up next to him. Blinking her big, innocent eyes and pitching her voice higher, she purred, "Liam."
