The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 114

Surprisingly, Claire was actually right about one thing.

Jocelyn had zero intention of lying.

She recounted the exact sequence of events without adding or removing a single detail.

"I did slap her once, and I did lock her in that room. But as for what happened after that, I have no idea."

Adrian's deeply suspicious and doubtful gaze made Jocelyn's heart sink.

"Whether you believe me or not, I'm telling the truth. Adrian—"

"Enough!" Adrian roared, his eyes blazing. "Claire is the baby of our family. We've spoiled her and protected her since she was born. What gave you the right to put your hands on her and lock her in a freezing room? What is wrong with you, Jocelyn?!"

Jocelyn felt a bitter wave of frustration.

"Adrian, do you ever stop to think that maybe she bullied me first? That she started the fight? If she hadn't relentlessly provoked and insulted me, I never would have done that!"

"She's practically a child!" Adrian shouted back. "If she did something wrong, tell me, and I'll discipline her!"

Jocelyn scoffed coldly. "If you actually knew how to discipline her, she wouldn't be twenty-four years old and acting like a complete sociopath!"

Adrian's eyes narrowed dangerously. "Who are you calling a sociopath?!"

Jocelyn refused to back down. "Your sister, Claire! And you!"

"Every time something happens, you act impulsively and irrationally! You don't care who's right or wrong. You just blindly point the finger at me and defend your family. You lack the basic ability of a normal person to distinguish right from wrong! If you're not an idiot, what are you?!"

Furious, Adrian raised his hand.

Jocelyn didn't flinch. She stared him dead in the eye.

"Go ahead. Try and hit me. But I swear to God, Adrian, if you lay a hand on me tonight, I will spend the rest of my life tearing you down!"

"How dare you threaten my grandson like that!"

"And another thing!" Michelle held out her hand demandingly. "Where is the necklace my son bought at the auction tonight? Hand it over!"

Jocelyn actually wanted to laugh.

Her daughter was lying in a hospital bed severely beaten, yet Michelle's priority was a piece of jewelry.

Thank God Jocelyn had foresight.

Feeling an ominous vibe about wearing the necklace, she had taken it off as soon as they left the gala and checked it in with the hotel's secure storage.

Michelle lunged forward, snatching Jocelyn's purse from her hands.

She violently dumped its contents out onto the floor.

"Where is the necklace?" Michelle screamed. "Where did you hide it?"
