The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 126

Julian hung up the phone.

"The 'truth' the Lowell family is looking for will be delivered today."

Jocelyn gave a knowing smile.

"But that 'truth' isn't the real truth."

She had already recovered the deleted data and knew exactly what really happened.

If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, Jocelyn would never have believed that the person who beat Claire to a pulp was...

Jeremy!

As for why Jeremy did it, Jocelyn had found a perfectly logical explanation for that, too.

She remembered what he had said outside the Lowell estate a few days ago.

"I'll avenge you today."

At the time, she thought it was just childish bravado. She had no idea he would...

Execute it so thoroughly.

The only thing Jocelyn still couldn't understand was why Jeremy had stuck his neck out for her.

That kid had always despised his adopted older sister. He had bullied her constantly growing up.

Julian took a sip of his coffee.

The rich aroma filled his senses.

Somehow, it tasted even better than usual.

"Julian."

"Hmm?"

"You're the one who originally bought my necklace. Right?"

His dark eyes swirled with a hint of amusement.

He knew it. The Jocelyn he knew was brilliantly sharp.

Smart, analytical, and highly organized.

"Yes."

"You bought it purely to help me out financially. Right?"

"Yes."

"And you knew I was going to the charity auction, so you donated the necklace because you guessed, knowing my personality, I'd find a way to make Adrian bid on it."

"Yes."

But what did he get out of it?

Suddenly, Jocelyn felt a little afraid to keep asking.

"Don't tell me Commissioner Davis showing up so perfectly timed was your doing, too."

Julian smiled casually. "Quentin and I go way back. He was stationed elsewhere back then, but it just so happened he transferred to Northwood City."

Jocelyn stared at him, dumbfounded.

"You..."

She really wanted to call him a devil. He was like a master chess player, and everyone else was just pieces on his board.

Adrian clearly had no idea how terrifyingly calculating his rival truly was, yet he still had the audacity to look down on Julian.

Suddenly, Jocelyn felt a wave of nervousness.

"Last question."

"Go ahead," Julian said.

Jocelyn paused for a few seconds.

"Everything you've done offers absolutely zero benefit to you. It only benefits me. So..."

"Why go to such incredible lengths to help me?"
