The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 130

"It’s just his first month," Adrian said soothingly. "He’ll have a birthday every year, and we can go all out for those."

Audrey brightened instantly.

"Well, you have to promise you'll be there for every single one of our baby's birthdays."

"Of course I will be."

Audrey was so thrilled she almost threw her arms around him, but then Adrian added another sentence.

"After all, I'm his uncle."

Audrey's soaring heart plummeted straight into the abyss.

"Right, there's one more thing I need to tell you."

Audrey gave a distracted, "Mm."

"I've agreed to let Jocelyn work at the company. It'll keep her from sitting around overthinking things, and it'll cut down on the friction with Grandma and Mom. As for you, don't overthink it either."

"Jocelyn isn't petty. She won't hold a grudge against you forever. You're worrying too much. We're all family. Everyone just needs to be a little more understanding and get along."

Audrey bit her lip, fighting back tears.

She was finding it harder and harder to read Adrian's heart.

Last night, he couldn't bear to watch her kneel, dragging her away without giving a damn about Jocelyn's pride.

That meant he cared about her.

But today, his words made her feel entirely disposable.

Audrey almost snapped and demanded an answer.

But ultimately, she smartly held her tongue.

She couldn't be hasty. One wrong word could ruin everything.

Adrian was the last person who would tolerate being pressured.

Besides, her father Caleb had already promised to help her.

Audrey forced a reluctant but submissive smile.

"I understand. Don't worry, Adrian. I'll make sure to get along with her."

The baby in Adrian's arms began to grow sleepy.

Adrian handed the child over to the maternity nurse.

Laura, the new housekeeper, walked over to report.

"You brought this on yourself!"

"Adrian!" Claire was practically vibrating with rage. "You are still taking that bitch's side! Did she drug you or something?!"

Hearing the word "bitch", Adrian lost his temper completely.

"Claire Lowell! I'm warning you for the last time—show Jocelyn some respect! Remember this: she will always be your family!"

Blinded by fury, Claire lost all filter.

"I don't want her in this family! I want Audrey! Arthur is dead anyway, and you and Audrey already have a baby together! You could absolutely divorce that woman and marry Audrey!"

"And Grandma and Mom want that too, I know you see it!"

"Shut your mouth!"

"I won't shut up!" Claire shrieked, totally unhinged. "Do you think I'm an idiot? Do you think I don't know how you and Audrey actually had that baby?!"

"That whole 'donor' story is bullshit! You slept with her!"

Adrian froze entirely.

"How... how do you know that?"
