The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 136

"You already knew that she and I..."

Jocelyn's mind raced.

"That photo of you two at the hotel... you hired someone to take it?"

Jocelyn wiped the tears from her cheeks, forcing down the heavy lump in her chest.

"Audrey had someone take it, and then she mailed it to me."

She turned her head, looking at him with bleak, hollow eyes.

"Do you believe me?"

Adrian frowned. "Why would Audrey do something like that? It doesn't benefit her at all."

Jocelyn let out a bitter laugh.

"How does it not benefit her? The benefit is forcing me out so she can take my place."

"Jo." Adrian let out a tired, helpless sigh. "Audrey has never wanted to force you out, and she certainly never wanted to take your place. She is an incredibly pure, simple person. Whatever she's feeling, whatever she wants, she just says it. She doesn't play mind games."

What could Jocelyn even say to that besides laugh?

She lowered her eyes, desperately burying her grief.

"Oh, Jocelyn. Just minutes ago, you actually hallucinated that you two were a real married couple who could rely on each other. How pathetic."

"Jo," Adrian promised, his tone earnest. "I swear to you, ever since Audrey got pregnant, I haven't touched her once."

Jocelyn squeezed her eyes shut, refusing to speak.

Adrian kept desperately trying to justify his actions.

"Arthur was the brother I loved most in the world. I only agreed to help Audrey because I wanted to honor his memory."

"But we only slept together purely to give him an heir. There was no emotional affair, I..."

The brother he loved most? Bullshit.

Jocelyn couldn't even find the energy to call him out.

The only person Adrian loved most was himself.

As for his twin brother, jealousy had likely far outweighed any actual love.

Honoring his memory? Even now, he was still lying!

Audrey was his untouchable fantasy!

How could he look her in the eye and claim there was no emotional affair?!

Adrian had been emotionally unfaithful to her for years!

If Audrey hadn't fallen for Arthur back then, Adrian would have done everything in his power to marry her himself.

Jocelyn stared blankly at the wall.

He wanted his cake and to eat it too?

He actually thought he could play house with two women under the same roof?

What a greedy, utterly shameless bastard!

Whether it was the morning sickness acting up or just Adrian's sheer audacity making her physically ill, Jocelyn felt a violent wave of nausea.

Oblivious to her discomfort, Adrian kept talking.

"Actually, Audrey is really pitiful. With Arthur gone, she's all alone. If she didn't have this baby, I'm honestly terrified she might have done something drastic."

"So, you..."

Jocelyn clamped a hand over her mouth, dry heaving violently.

Seeing this, Adrian froze.

This exact same nausea, this exact reaction... he had watched Audrey go through it. It looked incredibly familiar.

Pregnancy?

But they hadn't slept together in months...
