Jocelyn was immediately rushed to the obstetrics department.
Outside the examination room, Julian paced the hallway, entirely incapable of standing still.
Ethan stood quietly by the wall, entirely unsure of how to comfort his boss.
"Sir..."
Julian was practically drowning in guilt.
"She only got hurt because she was trying to protect me. If she loses this child, it will be completely my fault."
Ethan forced a reassuring tone, though he didn't entirely believe his own words.
"Miss Evans is a wonderful person. God will protect her. Everything is going to be fine."
Julian let out a bitter, humorless scoff.
"God? That's the exact same thing you said right before my mother died."
Ethan immediately snapped his mouth shut.
Right now, Julian Vance was completely unreachable.
The door to the examination room suddenly clicked open.
Julian practically sprinted toward it.
Ethan watched him go, utterly stunned.
He truly couldn't believe his eyes. Was this frantic, unhinged man really the same composed, elegant, and calculating CEO he had worked for all these years?
The doctor stepped out, looking absolutely furious.
"If she’s pregnant, she needs to avoid any physical trauma or high-stress situations. What were you thinking, letting her get into this state? You’re lucky she didn’t lose the baby. You need to be more responsible for her!"
Julian didn't even bother correcting the doctor's assumption.
"How is she? Is the baby okay?"
"It's a miracle," the doctor scolded harshly. "There was some minor hemorrhaging, but as of right now, the fetus is stable. However, she is strictly forbidden from walking around. She requires mandatory bed rest for the next three days. Absolute zero exertion."
The doctor began scribbling violently on a prescription pad.
"Make sure she takes these medications exactly on time. And do not leave her alone! If another emergency complication arises and no one is there to bring her in immediately, she will absolutely miscarry. Do you understand me?"
Jocelyn's weak voice floated out from behind the privacy curtain.
"Does it have to be strict bed rest? I have a lot going on right now."
The doctor instantly exploded.
"I don't care how busy you are! You are about to be a mother! Don't you have any sense of responsibility? You—"
"Doctor," Julian cut in, his voice commanding and firm. "It was entirely my fault. Please don't yell at her. You have my word, she will get the rest she needs."
The doctor gave Julian a stern, appraising look before nodding in mild approval.
Jocelyn was so mortified she wanted the floor to open up and swallow her whole.
Julian suddenly stopped walking and glanced over his shoulder. "Ethan. Put her hood up."
Ethan instantly understood the assignment. He carefully pulled the oversized hood of Jocelyn's coat over her head, shielding her face from view.
While he was at it, he practically pulled her surgical mask up to her eyeballs.
Jocelyn was so completely covered she couldn't even see straight.
If she wasn't terrified of tearing a muscle in her bruised shoulder, she would have burst out laughing.
These two had been working together for so long they practically shared a brain.
When Julian carried her into the orthopedics office, the doctor took one look at them and immediately assumed the injury was in her legs. He reached down to examine her knees.
"It's my shoulder," Jocelyn corrected awkwardly.
The doctor spent the next few minutes pressing, prodding, and rotating her arm.
"It doesn't seem to be anything critical. But if you want to be completely sure, we can do an X-ray to check for any hairline fractures."
"She's pregnant," Julian stated instantly.
Jocelyn felt a wave of embarrassment.
"He's literally thinking of everything before I even open my mouth. I am a terrible mother."
