The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 185

"As an apology, we'll be sending two complimentary bottles of our finest vintage to your table. Please forgive the delay, Miss Evans."

Jocelyn blinked, stunned for a few seconds. Was he really talking to her?

Then she remembered: Aurelia was owned by Julian and Liam. Had one of them set this up?

Adrian stood there, utterly bewildered. Michelle and Eleanor exchanged confused glances. Why on earth was the manager of Aurelia bowing and scraping for Jocelyn instead of the Lowell family?

Feeling humiliated, Eleanor spoke up, her tone icy. "Until that divorce certificate is in your hand, you are still a daughter-in-law of the Lowell family. And even after it's finalized, the agreement states it must be kept strictly confidential for six months. So please watch your behavior in public. Do not forget your place or the terms of the contract!"

Jocelyn gave her a slow, mocking smile. "You don't think I'm sleeping with the owner, do you? Is that why you think they're giving me the royal treatment instead of you?"

She practically spat the last few words.

Eleanor bristled, wanting to scream at her, but she swallowed her rage for the sake of her precious granddaughter's birthday.

Michelle, however, lacked any self-control. "So you're admitting it! You've been plotting to divorce Adrian while secretly shopping around for your next meal ticket! You've gotten too used to the high life, haven't you? You couldn't bear to be poor again, so you're throwing yourself at other rich men!"

Jocelyn tilted her head, looking straight at Adrian. "See that, Adrian? Divorcing you was the best decision I ever made."

With that, she turned on her heel and headed upstairs.

Adrian couldn't yell at his grandmother, so he unleashed his fury on Michelle. "Jocelyn isn't like that! Can you stop picking fights for five minutes? We've already signed the divorce papers. Can't you just let me have a few days of peace?!"

He stormed off.

Audrey bit her lip and shook her head.

"That's so strange. Why wouldn't he tell you? That makes no sense."

To save face, Audrey quickly formulated an excuse. "He's probably just been so busy. Or maybe he assumed you guys would tell me, so he didn't bring it up."

Michelle waved it off. "Whatever. They're getting divorced, so we don't need to waste our breath on that woman anymore." She smiled warmly at Audrey. "Once he's divorced, it means he'll be marrying you soon. Are you happy?"

Of course she was happy. But it meant her father's plan needed to be put into motion immediately. She couldn't risk Adrian or Jocelyn backing out. She needed to light a fire under this situation.

Tonight might just be the perfect opportunity...
