The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 184

Watching her elegant signature dry on the page, Adrian felt a sudden, sharp pang of regret twist in his gut.

"I already ran the fifty million settlement by Grandma. She agreed to it."

"Great," Jocelyn said smoothly. "Then please wire it to my account as soon as possible."

"Grandma said she won't authorize the transfer until we actually have the divorce certificate."

"Fine. Not a problem."

Adrian fell silent. "You don't look upset at all."

Jocelyn wanted to laugh, but she knew she shouldn't. She kept her face perfectly composed. "You don't have to show sadness on your face. Unlike some people, I don't believe that throwing a tantrum is the only way to get candy."

Adrian took back the signed papers. "Once Leo is discharged from the hospital, we'll go to the courthouse and make it official."

"Sounds good."

Adrian wanted to say something else, but his mouth opened and closed without a sound. Looking at Jocelyn's calm, detached face, he suddenly realized she was slipping further and further away from him. So far away he couldn't reach her anymore.

Was getting a divorce really the right choice?

The silence stretched between them until Jocelyn broke it. "Does this mean I don't have to go back to the Lowell estate anymore? Can I just stay at my own place?"

"My own place." God, those words felt incredible to say.

"Live wherever you want. I'm not forcing you," Adrian replied, surprisingly accommodating. It was so out of character that Jocelyn almost doubted it was him.

"It'll save you and Audrey from arguing anyway. If you stay here, she'll have some peace and quiet over there."

A thousand curses ran through Jocelyn's mind.

When Jocelyn walked into Aurelia, the entire Lowell clan was standing awkwardly in the main lobby. As it turned out, Adrian had forgotten to book a private dining room, and the host politely informed him they would have to sit in the general dining area.

Adrian's face was thunderous. He was a regular here, a top-tier VIP. There was no way he was sitting in the main hall like a commoner.

The server desperately tried to explain. "I am so sorry, sir, but our private rooms are booked weeks in advance. We simply don't have any available tonight."

"Adrian, fix this," Eleanor demanded impatiently. "The elders are waiting."

Adrian was just about to lose his temper when Audrey stepped in with a sweet smile. "Could you please fetch your manager? He's been to the Lowell estate before. He knows exactly who Mr. Lowell is."

Not wanting to offend a billionaire, the server hurried off. Moments later, the manager rushed out.

Adrian stood tall, fully expecting a groveling apology. Instead, the manager walked right past him and made a beeline for Jocelyn.

"Miss Evans! I had no idea you were gracing us with your presence tonight. I am incredibly sorry for the wait. I've already instructed the staff to clear out our premier VIP suite for you. It'll just be a moment!"
