The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 191

Diana shot Jeremy a meaningful look.

Jeremy looked reluctant, but he finally spoke up. "Late last night, Dad couldn't sleep, so he asked the nurse to help him go for a walk down the hall. He ran into Adrian and Audrey."

Jocelyn froze, her head snapping up. "And then what?"

"Dad talked to Adrian for a few minutes. I don't know what they said, but as soon as he got back to his room, he started feeling awful, and then..."

Jocelyn couldn't breathe. The sickening memory of Adrian's SUV rocking in the parking garage flooded her mind.

Did her dad see them? Did he find out what they were doing and get so angry that...

Yes! It had to be Adrian!

Adrian had literally said to her face that he wished her father had died so he could buy out The Evans Group!

The more Jocelyn thought about it, the closer she pushed to the edge.

Just then, Adrian walked into the hall with Audrey clinging to his side.

Jocelyn didn't hesitate. She lunged forward, her palm connecting with Adrian’s cheek in a crack that echoed through the hall.

Everyone in the room gasped in shock.

It took Adrian a full second to register what happened. Furious, he raised his hand to strike her back, but seeing her ghostly pale face and trembling lips, his hand hovered in the air.

Audrey shrieked, instantly playing the victim. "Jocelyn! Why did you hit Adrian?!"

Jocelyn backhanded Audrey across the face next.

Audrey clutched her stinging cheek. "Jocelyn! Have you lost your damn mind?!"

Driven to the absolute brink by the sudden death of the only person who loved her, Jocelyn didn't care about decorum, consequences, or logic. The agony in her chest demanded an outlet.

She stared at them with pure, venomous hatred. "Yes! I have lost my mind!"

"Shut up!"

Adrian and Jocelyn yelled at the exact same time.

Adrian forced himself to swallow his fury. "I am here to pay my respects to my father-in-law. The dead deserve peace. Whatever issues we have, we can settle them later."

He tried to step past her toward the casket.

Jocelyn shoved him back violently. "Get the hell out! You killed my father! Stop standing here acting like you actually care!"

Adrian's brow furrowed in genuine confusion. "What the hell are you talking about?! When did I kill your father?"

Jeremy suddenly stepped forward. "Adrian, what exactly did you say to my dad last night? The second he came back, his heart failed. You must have said something to upset him!"

"You knew exactly how fragile his condition was!"

Adrian's mind flashed back to the events of the previous night, and a wave of deep regret washed over him.
