Adrian froze, and for a moment, he didn't know how to respond.
Jocelyn scoffed coldly. "Don't want to admit it, or don't dare to?"
Adrian took a hard drag of his cigarette.
"Did you eavesdrop on Audrey and me?"
Jocelyn's eyes were practically made of ice.
"Did I need to eavesdrop? The two of you were having that conversation in the middle of a public hallway."
"I was just blowing off steam. I didn't mean it."
"But it was exactly what you were thinking."
Jocelyn tilted her head back and looked at the sky.
The clouds were a heavy, suffocating gray. Before she even realized it, winter had quietly crept in.
No wonder she had been feeling so chilled to the bone lately.
"Adrian, I knew you were trash, but I never realized you were this depraved. To get your hands on The Evans Group, you were entirely willing to disregard a human life."
Adrian's face darkened.
"Jocelyn! I know your father's death hit you hard, but you have no right to pin his death on me!"
"Do you really think me saying a few words killed him? Maybe his time was just up! That's not something any of us can control!"
Jocelyn stared at him. "You're right. Maybe his time was up. But you were the one who pushed him off the ledge."
"It wasn't me!" Adrian roared, finally losing his temper.
"I already explained this to you! The entire time I was talking to your father, he was completely calm! He didn't get agitated at all!"
"How was I supposed to know he was going to crash the second I left?!"
"For all we know, someone else went in there and triggered him after I walked out!"
Jocelyn stared at him with total apathy, not saying a word.
Adrian's credibility with her was absolutely zero.
She would never be able to figure out how many lies were woven into every sentence that came out of his mouth.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
Jocelyn's expression didn't even twitch.
"You'll find out soon enough."
She turned to walk inside.
Adrian reached out and grabbed her wrist.
"I came here today because I need you for something."
Jocelyn violently yanked her hand free.
"Don't ever touch me with hands that have been all over another woman. You're disgusting."
Adrian swallowed his fury.
"There's a charity gala tomorrow night. A lot of top government officials are going to be there, including Commissioner Davis."
"We skipped the last event because your father was in the hospital, but we can't miss this one. If we don't show up together, they're going to suspect our marriage is on the rocks."
